Well, my 4-year-old loves doing this, but definitely needs help. It's too heavy for him to do alone. He needs help with balance, too. The neighborhood kids all tried it out with varying success. Some loved it, some were frightened away. Some playful adults tried it, too, which was just as entertaining for those watching.
There are a couple of design features that should be pointed out.
1. Not as ergonomic as it looks. The handles and footrests are fine, but the stilts themselves are not balanced. The off-center placement of the handle arms means gravity pulls them to the side. The user has to actively counter-balance the lateral pull of the handles while also balancing themselves. It's very challenging and not all users seem to be able to "get it". That being said, I found it was much like any other balancing sport (ski, snowboard, etc), a lot of up-front challenge to get going and then the learning kinda "clicks". Still a ton of fun as long as you push through the learning phase. Great for anyone up for a balance challenge. The kids in our neighborhood who are cautious or not physically inclined were intimidated by it.
2. Heavy. It's steal. If I had the extra cash, I would have bought the aluminum version. These steal ones are so heavy that the younger (age 4-6) kids can't even carry them next door to play with their friends. They are fun enough that I'm glad to have them, but just get the aluminum version if that's in your budget.
