Don't let the product picture fool you - this is a case for the 5th generation iPod touch. It does fit the slimmer design perfectly (see photo I added). The inner portion of the case is a plastic, snap-in holder that allows access to all the buttons and ports with ease. The one small complaint I have with the case brand new is that the material is a little sticky, and was sticking to my screen just a bit. I solved that by placing a small microfiber cloth over the screen.
I rarely carry cards or money in these wallet-style cases, so I can't speak to using them that way. I have, on rare occasion, put a few bucks or a card into the provided slots for a quick run into a store, but I've never left cards in the case for a long time. I would worry about demagnetizing the strips if I did. The front magnet closure is pretty strong, and it is right over where card strips would go. So, I'd say don't plan on doing that. The slots do hold a few business cards and a small microfiber cloth quite well. That's how I use them. Overstuffed they make flat closure difficult.
I have seen other people complain that this case does not allow access to the volume buttons when closed. That is true. They are accessible through the inside plastic cutout, but not when the case is closed. Having used a wallet case before, I don't find the act of flipping the case open and hitting the buttons difficult. I can do it one-handed without even looking. Alternatively, I can also ask Siri to pause the music, but Siri never is able to find the same song again when I ask it to play again, even if I just paused! Also, if you are using the Apple headphones, there should be volume control on them.
I also happened to pick a color that matched the new device perfectly. While I don't usually care too much about that, it was kind of cool.
Pros: fits well, protects iPod especially in bag or pocket
Cons: stiff new vinyl, have to open to change volume
CONS: The spine has so little give (or seam allowance) to it, that if you put any cards in the slots, it doesn't close easily. It is overstuffed almost instantly with 2 cards only. I worried that the cards will put pressure on the glass front of the iPod Touch when closed, which would potentially damage it!
I bought it to protect my iPod while holding cards and money, and since I CAN'T fit in cards and money and be sure the case itself will not damage my iPod (!), I have returned it. If you DON'T plan to put in any cards or money, or just plan to put in ONE of any of them, it will probably work for you just fine. And the build quality is very high, so I was really bummed to have to return it.
For those who are wondering, they really do send you an ipod case, even though the photo looks suspiciously like an iphone. It fits my ipod touch 5th gen perfectly.
The case the ipod snaps into is plastic. I'll update on any bad wear and tear.
The case is not well designed to actually be used as a wallet. It provides two card slots and a "hidden" pocket. Putting two cards in the slots causes the case to not close flush. Putting another in the "hidden" pocket causes it to be absurdly open. So don't plan on stuffing it. Two cards and one or two bills is about it if you don't want it bulging. [being that you'll have to fold bills at least once, most likely twice to make them fit]
I'm not sure why there is a hole in the case for the loop. From what I understand about how the loop functions it would not be able to function with that hole.
WARNING!!! This case is highly magnetic. The clasp is magnetic in attaching to the cover, as well as the backside so the clasp and the cover can be held back behind the ipod while in use [which is very slick and useful]. Because of this it has fried the magnetic strip on my Safeway club card. My credit card seems unharmed so far [as in it still works].
My suggestion for use: Ideally use this wallet just for ID and cash, although my credit card seems unharmed so far. Keep lower quality magnetic cards away from this wallet, such as store membership cards and especially gift cards [don't want to risk wiping them!]. Keep those in a separate wallet, and ideally in a completely different location [different pants pocket, different section of the purse, etc].
