This is where the fun part started. I purchased the 2yr Canopy Protection Plan with the product, so I called them up. They told me that the 2 year plan doesn't kick in until the Limited Product Warranty ends in 1 year. Canopy was very polite and forwarded me to Sylvania.
I'm now on the phone with Sylvania. They tell me that this isn't their product (despite the big SYLVANIA letters on the front of the turntable, not pictured here), so they forward me to a number for 'Curtis International' (http://curtisint.com/).
Curtis International turned into a frustratingly funny conversation. I gave the individual the model number and told him about the turntable skipping. He read the product name back to me and I confirmed. He kept asking me to check the CD's. I corrected him and told him that it was just the records, as previously mentioned. He then asked me to "grab the remote for the DVD". Spoiler Alert: There is no remote... or DVD player. Then I realized it: This guy didn't know the difference between a vinyl record and a Compact Disc. The funniest part: The person told me to push the On button (It's a volume knob) and leave it on for 5 seconds... then turn it off and let it sit for 30 minutes... this would reset the product and if it still skipped, to call back. What exactly is this reseting? Was he reading from the wrong manual? I questioned him... and he hung up.
I called back and talked to a female this time. She continued to ask about the CD's. At this point, I just wanted to get rid of the product, so they told me I could return the product to be fixed but I'd have to pay the shipping as well as include a money order of $7 to cover the cost of insurance and the return of the product... SAY WHAT?! I just purchased a $7.99 2-Year protection plan, and now I have to pay to ship this faulty product to be fixed AND for it's return (which at this point I don't even want).
LONG STORY SHORT, I'm going to let this turntable sit on a desk for one year as a cute ornament until the Canopy Protection Plan kicks in. Every once in a while, I'll pop the only cassette I own into it: The soundtrack from Roadhouse. Then, after the one-sided Curtis International warranty is up, I'm booting it out of my house and getting a real turntable.
Awesome. Worthless. $70 down the drain. Sylvania says to get with Amazon. Amazon says nope get with Sylvania.
