It is extremely well built, and verging on hilariously long at nearly 40". THE tool to have if you are removing the Jesus nut on axles/hubs/wheel bearings/etc. 15 year old nuts torqued to 250lbft at the factory are loosened with hardly any effort. No heat. No PB Blaster. Just some good ole' T=r x F.
I wish there were more excuses to use it. Perhaps if you are a heavy equipment mechanic but not for a lowly DIYer.
Other possible uses include:
- Reloading civil war reenactment cannons
- Billiards cue
Anyway, I bought the wrench for one job: to torque down the bolt on a trailer hitch ball. 450 foot pounds of torque was recommended, so this 3 cohort long breaker bar was about as close as I could come. The play in the wrench didn't matter, as the hitch ball sticks out the back of the truck.
I give it two stars because it did the job, and because this huge wrench does look cool.
UPDATE, I just used this tool on a very difficult job. I even abused it to get the job done and it held up beyond my expectations. I was about to resort to taking it to a shop or torching it off, but this breaker bar saved me more time trouble effort and MONEY that I paid for it.
Can't say enough good.
If Russ is still working, someone please get that man a raise!
If there are any problems with any Tekton products, just shoot them an email, and Russ will make you whole. Excellent customer service. I'm pretty confident in buying other Tekton tools in the future.
Got this giant breaker bar solely for removing axle nuts. As expected, this bar takes them off like butter. (it's physics! of course it should).
So far, have used it with 95 Accord (36mm), and 05 Saab9-2x (32mm) with no problems.
Decided on this bar because this is longest, biggest drive bar at reasonable price.
Forget screwing around with heat or cheater bars. Forget risking getting injured or burned, or breaking your tools, or damaging your car other stuff. Even at $50 for the bar, plus <$20 for appropriate socket – I think it is well worth it just to break off axle nuts vs. time, effort, and uncertainty of those other methods.
Before, the axle nut would be my biggest hurdle, but with this bar it's now one of the easiest tasks. I am super confident about doing any (front) work that needs the axle nut removed.
-The handle end of the bar is a bit sharp/edgey in that it might scratch or mar your floor if you drag the bar, or push it away. Would have been better if the edge was rounded.
-Great for removing, but be aware or plan ahead for torquing when re-installing. (torque wrench with big enough socket, etc.) When reinstalling axle nuts, I still use this bar, and just torque by feel.
-With this specific bar, the head swivels somewhat freely. It does not click or stay in place like some other breaker bars. Be careful when handling, as the head may flop around. Also very heavy and bulky in general, I wouldn’t want to drop this on my foot or anywhere.
