I can't use this mug as a drinking cup because there's no telling how gross it would get inside the walls over time. Its amazingly pretty, however, and I'll use it for something.
She always takes a coffee mug of some sort in the car with her as she speeds off to work.Once in a while, she will tell me of the failures her other mugs have been. She is certainly never one to complain, so I only find out about these failing mugs only in a roundabout way. While shooping together, I will see her eyeing some new appliance which will come with great ballyhooing about why This New Generation of mugs will keep your coffee hot or your Tea Cold much better than died after it went through the dishwasher, or was unusable because the lid cracked, or failed because it was too cold/hot outside and the thing only worked within certain proscribed temperature etc. etc.
One time she gave me a cold drink with ice and announced that she hoped it worked for me OK. When I asked Why, she told me the following tale. This cup had to be kept in the freezer if it was to be used for cold drinks so the the substance in the middle of this cup could freeze and thus your drink would remain cold for an extended period. BUT, since she uses it for hot coffee herself, she had had it in the freeaer for only 30 minutes prior to my arrival. AND..she had noticed that the substance to keep things cold or hot, had dwindled awy with every handwashing, plus it had turned an ugly green color and quite frankly, she had found that her coffee did not stay all that warm, let alone hot, on her drive in to see her employer.
So, basically, she had told me "Good Luck with this Honey. Better drink it up before something else goes wrong with this contraption."
It was time she had something reliable to work with. While looking on Amazon for a travel cup that would keep things Hot, I found this travel mug by Lenox. But it was not the beauty of the mug that swayed me, nor was it that I could get a mug with my friend's initial on it, nor was it the 50% breakage warranty offered with this mug. In the end it was the reviews written on Lenox Ceramic Mugs written by HARD CORE Coffee Aficianados who described their pleasure regarding Lenox Travel Mugs of all types.
I was amazed at some of the requirements that hard core coffee drinkers had for the mugs they chose. It had to bear up under Very Hot Coffee being plunged into on icy mornings where glove and coats and boots were the outfits of the morning. The cup could not crack and the lid, once applied, had to stay on through the thick and thin of the office commute. I found that the lid on the cup is like the gold dome on top of a snazzy building. If the lid failed in any way, the cup was tossed. There could be no separation of the lid and the cup; Cracking of a lid automatically disqualified the entire set up; and the most stringent of requirements were that the lid did no to drink coffee while negotiating a messy freeway; NOR,, in the strictest of requirements, could the lid be felt by the lower lip by the drinker who must only feels the ceramic on the lower mouth, never the silicone of the item capping their favorite morning wakeup call in the form of a liquid. THESE WERE SERIOUS PEOPLE WHO absolutely dotted theit i's and crossed their t's.
I read many a revew od different types of cups, but those who chose Lenox Ceramic cups with Silicone lids had the very MOST STRINGENT REQUIREMENTS. They asked for perfection in items that I had not known existed..
The Lenox Ceramic cup had to be the one For my friend. And, I was blessed to find that they even offered one with her initial on it!!! Now, after all this reading about the perfection of this item, I had to get one for myself. I drink tea, not coffee and am quite used to my mouth hitting some sort of plastic lid handed out at the nearest take out window. I certainly did not have the list of requirements that THOSE COFFEE PEOPLE had.
So, i found only one slight failing in this ceramic beauty: I wished that it had a larger capacity so I could have more tea with me!
This mug only holds 10 ounces, and that is if you fill it to the top with just barely enough room to put the lid on.
It is not too hot to hold when filled with a hot drink.
But the drink cools quicker than with my other travel mugs.
But it's pretty, and doesn't leak when you drink from it and it is easy to clean.
