Falling apart in less than 2 weeks (but replacement has been holding up as it should)

The small cap on the top of my pepper mill just fell off. Have used just a few times since then. I checked the cap on the salt mill and it seems to be ok. The pepper mill still seems to grind ok, but since a prime motivation in my buying this Lua set rather than the regular OXO Good Grips Grinders (of which I already have 5 and never had a bit of trouble) was for the sleek look to display in a special place in my kitchen. Disappointed to say the least ...

2/15 update: Realizing I would never be happy with the mill in the defective condition that it was, I did contact OXO customer support and sent them pictures. They asked for me to return the set and they would send another set. It took a while, but now I have a new set and so far, so good.

7/15 update: I have upgraded my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars since the replacement mill has been holding up as it should and haven't had any further problems.

Thank GOD that someone finally had some sense to put the grinders at the top. I was very tired of always having a mess to clean from prior mills.

Pro's:
- Grinder on top (removes mess)
- Decent quality build

Con's:
- Price
- The grind can seem inefficient many times. Sometimes I feel like i'm really having to crank this thing and it's still barely sprinkling anything.

SECOND REVIEW: I decided to go ahead and purchase the more expensive pepper mill given the reviews here and online. I was glad it can adjust the grind and it is stainless steel (though selecting wheel is plastic) and all was going great but right about a year into its use...the grinding selector...well, let's say the grinding is just about the same no matter what you select. That was disappointing and so was the fact that I could not request a replacement because warranty had expired...wish I'd have known that. -- Still, well, I had to keep using it and it does continue to grind but about 6 months after first malfunction, then suddenly the grinding mechanism does not seem to be catching the peppercorns well. -- I bought this, assured it was one of the best as far as sturdy mechanisms are concerned and now, I am so disappointed that I have to consider buying another one. -- Some would say I got 2 years of use...well, I had a long neck wooden mill (the one I gave away to a friend after buying this one - only because I had no counter space to have it) for just about 10 years and loyal in its duty...I feel my hard-earned money deserves to have a hard-working mill. -- I am sad to have to demote this rating because for the short time period this mill worked, it worked very nicely, too bad it did not have any better mechanism than the rest. -- If you find my review helpful, please mark it so if you may. As other reviewers have stated, there is an issue where the top decorative cap (the round middle bit that says "OXO") can come off. I knew that going in, but figured I could fix it. Sure enough, one of my caps fell off eventually [see picture], and a little dab of epoxy glue solved the problem. That was months ago now; no further issue. Two-minute fix (plus drying time). In my opinion it's not remotely worth the hassle of a return.

So, with everything else going for these mills -- durability, looks, price, tidyness, ease of use, viewability, etc., etc., I'm satisfied they're the best option on Amazon right now. Make sure you've got some decent super glue in the house; and then buy 'em!

2019 Update

I am now bumping up my review to a 4-star review (from my original 2-star review). After I reached out to OXO about the cap falling off, they had sent me a new set that has since performed very well. This is now a product I would recommend, especially since I have generally had a good experience with OXO warranty issues.

Original Review from 2015 -- 2 Stars

This is a beautiful salt and pepper mill set. They grind salt and pepper with incredible ease, and I really enjoy using them in the kitchen.

However, there is a fatal flaw: there is a cap where the OXO label is displayed. That cap came right off and fell right into my food while I was using the salt mill... and that was after using the mill for less than 1 week. (See the attached picture.)

I bought this set simply due to its good looks (and I bet it's the main reason that the majority of purchasers even considered this product). Sadly, when the cap comes off, it's not so pretty to look at anymore. It also makes me question the durability of the rest of the mill.

If you read other reviews, you'll see that this is not an isolated problem. Many reviewers are experiencing the same issue.
