We buy & use lots of sugar. I usually buy in the 10lb bag. Then it sits in the cabinet rolled up, open to the humidity in the air or any bugs (ew). When you take it out and unroll it, sugar gets everywhere. I was done!
SIZE- It holds a lot. It was 1/4 of the way full, I dumped in a 10lb bag of granulated sugar, and still had plenty of room to throw a 1 cup measuring cup in there and have extra room! I would guestimate that it holds 15lbs comfortably. Perfect. So when I start getting low, I buy a 10lb bag and dump it into whatever is left in the container.
SEAL- It has a rubber gasket and four locking tabs. I've used this type of container for years and love them. They keep out bugs, air/humidity, and keep my things fresh for years. They are easy to get in and out of and I don't even want to try a different type. I thought of getting a large jar with a screw on lid and I'm so very glad I didn't! Click, click, click with one hand and it's open-fast and easy!
DURABILITY- I was really worried about the amount of weight I would be putting in this container and then lifting it by a handle....The container itself, feels a little flimsier than my other containers. That being said, the handle feels firm and it (along with the lid), is made of a thicker plastic. So, after a few tentative lifts, I feel confident that it will hold up. *I will update if I have ANY problems in the future.
VALUE- $17 for a container! I know...it was hard for me to justify this...Here's how I look at it:
*This is a 10 year or more investment.
*This will save me from throwing out hardened or bug-infested sugar and wasting money.
*This will deter bugs from my pantry since there's no food available to entice them in the first place.
*This saves countless time spent cleaning up messes from bags being used.
*This saves time of easily grabbing it, accessing, and measuring the sugar when I'm cooking.
*This allows me to clearly see how much sugar I have (so I know when to shop) and the condition it's in (ie no bugs-I worry lol). *This makes my pantry cleaner and more organized-it really looks awesome!
I've slowly, but surely (over the years) switched most of my pantry items to these clear snap lid containers. Some I've had for 15yrs. I plan on purchasing another one for my all purpose flour. I highly recommend this product!
BOTH of my boxes leaked. But the WTF moment was that the CAUSE of the leak was damage (a pinched blue gasket) due to manufacturer product advertising cardboard wedged in the corner of the box -- on which is printed "Airtight - Leakproof"
.... seriously? Both of my boxes have leaks caused by unnecessary advertisements about how leakproof the box is?
Just to be safe, I also took the gaskets off, cleaned them, and re-inserted them. Still leaked. Both boxes.
I posted a photo of the leak in the customer photos section, and I'm promptly returning both leaky boxes. Furthermore, the 40-cup box had a hairline crack on one of the closure tabs before I even filled it up, leading me to believe that the tabs aren't really sturdy either.
Honestly, I don't know what took me so long -- I should have found it years ago, especially considering how much baking I do. Finally, measuring flour is not going to be accompanied by the annoying little "flour spills" everywhere.
Also, the container is somewhat tapered so the listed dimensions aren't really correct. The listing says it's 10.2 x 8.5 x 9.1 inches. The top dimension is 10 x 8.5 inches, but the bottom is 9 x 7.375 inches. It is 9.1 inches tall as listed. If you measure on the inside, the top is only 9.25 x 7.75 inches. The bottom is smaller still. This is kind of important if, say, you're trying to store something that is 8 inches square inside - the dimensions SOUND like that'll work, but in reality you can't even fit it inside.
Altogether a pretty big fail. Returning.
