Jackie Under My Skin is a nuanced description of how Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis transformed our definitions of personal identity and style. As Wayne Koestenbaum follows her into America's dreamwork, far from pious "family values," he dares to see her as a pleasure principle, a figure of Circean extravagance, and liberates her from the propagandistic uses to which her image if often harnessed.

Great fun!2014年7月5日 - 已在美国亚马逊上发表
I always thought of Jackie as vacuous and pretentious, a combination that makes for the perfect figure of fun. After reading this book, my opinion of Jackie hasn't changed at all, but I certainly liked the writing. I enjoyed reading about Jackie the phenomenon, Jackie the icon. I can't understand why other reviewers didn't enjoy the writing itself. I guess they just don't appreciate an above average style and thought-provoking insights. Of course some of the writer's notions were a stretch, and his pre-occupations trivial, but many "straight" biographies say more about their authors than about their subjects anyway, so why not just take that as a given and run with it? Count me as one of the "couldn't-put-it-down" readers.
The book arrived in excellent condition. The book content is lacking2016年5月13日 - 已在美国亚马逊上发表
The book arrived in excellent condition. The book content is lacking, each section seems to be a repetition of the former section.
Strange infatuation with Jackie Kennedy Onassis.2014年5月25日 - 已在美国亚马逊上发表
I slogged through this book to find out if I could get to the core reason this author, who has great credentials, wrote this book only to be perplexed at the end. Did I miss the point?
Wonderful, Personal Read2016年6月6日 - 已在美国亚马逊上发表
One of the most intriguing pieces I've read in a long while. Koestenbaum, writing from a deeply personal place, captures the culture's conscious and subconscious readings, expectations and influences of Jackie Kennedy. This personal vantage point obsessively dissects cultural associations, putting the mythology of "Jackie O" under an even more magnifying microscope than social scrutiny ever could.
