The Pure Wings 2 family fans are unique in their class, combining outstanding reliability, silent cooling, and a great price-for-performance ratio. It's impressive how much quiet technology the German engineering team has crammed into these fans at this amazing price. They are the ultimate reason to put well-known be quiet! silent cooling in your PC if you haven't already done so. The Pure Wings 2 120mm model combines all of the above essential features. This doesn't really matter since I received essentially the same fan. There is no difference using this fan in a non-PWM circuit other than it uses a 4-pin vice 3-pin connector, and of course there will be a small portion of the connector extending past a 3-pin header.
These connectors were designed to be compatible with each other. Pin 1 is ground, 2 is +12, 3 is RPM sense and 4 is the PWM signal. Using a PWM fan (4-pin) on a non-PWM header (3-pin) just means that fan will always run at 100% just like a non-PWM fan (unless fan speed is controlled by varying input voltage on pins 1-2).
I mention this only because the description of the fan (it is listed as BL045 which is a non-PWM fan) does not correctly match the item that was sent (BL038 is their PWM version) and buyers should be aware of the discrepancy.
There are several comments here about receiving a PWM fan instead of the non-PWM fan in the description so it looks like PWM fans are being sent for both.
Decided to use it in a PWM circuit. Works great (and silent).
Nothing manufactured en-mass is without the occasional failure, so I'm not angry, but I expect the Pure Wings company to make good on this. I'll update this review if they do.
I recently bought a 120 mm fan, same series, and it had a 3-pin connector.
(btw i was worried about the amount of reviews too cause of them possibly being fake they arn't and this fan deserves all the praise it gets)
