Rippin' and the tearin'

I wanted to wait a while before I reviewed these. Right off the bat, I had ordered 5.11, Carhartt and Vertx pants all at once, all the same size. The Vertx were a lot more snug in the waist than the other two. (However the 5.11 length was a tad shorter than the others) I've been wearing these for a couple months and I have now experienced three rips; first one, a cut near the boot, where it appears the rip-stop did it's job. Second, both the inside pocket on the left cargo pocket and the exterior pocket on the back left have ripped away from the fabric. It's not that both ripped, it's just how EASY it happened. I work outside, and I'm very active. It's sad to say that the pants couldn't hold up to the competition.

So why did I give it two stars? Well, if you're not working in these, and just wearing they're decent pants. My favorite feature is that the muzzle of my concealed carry fits perfectly in the right cargo pocket.

Great concept but incompatible fit for me

First, about me and what I am looking for: I am not in a tactical oriented career, but I am very active in hiking, rock climbing, surfing, and yoga. The yoga is to keep my aging body somewhat flexible for my other activities. I work in an office environment and I do a lot of stretching in my office during short breaks. I actually stretch all the time, so I like pants that provide the freedom to stretch. I was looking for a pair of low profile cargo pant which I could wear for both work and playing outdoors; with cotton/poly bend material which is light weight and breathable for warmer weather and durable. Pants that could be worn causal and slightly dressed up (semi business casual).

These pants are almost the cat's meow for me. Almost, but not. Here are the pros and cons for me:

Pros:
The construction appears durable, although I haven't really worn them except for trying them on. But I would wager that they will hold up to much abuse. The overall design is attractive and low profile. Being non-tactical, I didn't want all the excessive pockets and gear loops, but I do like cargo pockets to carry things when hiking or running around town. The cargo pockets are smartly designed to be low profile. The material looks good and feels like a medium weight canvas. The pants do create a slight swooshing sound when walking, but I did not find it unacceptable.

Cons:
The fit!!! The waist is extremely narrow and the legs are extremely baggy. I am 5'5" with a stocky athletic build and thick legs. I usually wear a 32" waist jean. I ordered both the 33x30 and 34x30. The 34 waist fits but a little snug and the legs are so baggy that I am not comfortable wearing them for work. I asked a few of my coworkers and my girlfriend if the pants would be appropriate for work, in their opinion, and they all commented on how baggy the legs are. I also don't like how high the belt line rides and think the pant leg bottoms are too wide. Also, the material isn't what I would consider light weight. Maybe medium weight. Although, I haven't worn them actively in warm temperatures, my initial feel is that the pants would be a little hot in temperatures over 80 F. But I could be wrong.

In conclusion, if it wasn't for the fit issue, I would have bought these in many colors. If you have a body with a narrow waist and very thick legs, then buy these pants. If you have more of an average build, you might experience fit issues like I have. I hope my review provides with some helpful information.

Better than "nearly every other" tactical pant

These LT's are a great pants, and I wear them weekly, that said, I prefer the Phantom Ops pants over these for 2 reasons:
1) The Phantom Ops pants have the hidden zippered pockets on both front pockets, where these just have the hidden zippered pocket on the right side.
2) The Phantom Ops pants have the dual side knife/light pockets on both sides, where these pants do not have them at all.
I was originally thinking these were the Phantom Ops "Powered by Airflow" pants, but they are a completely different pant.
These are slightly less "tactical" in appearance than the Phantom Ops/Airflow pants. The patch rear pockets on these LT's lend to that look, and they appear as mere "cargo" pants, but they are more than mere "cargo" pants. I do love the fit, and in some instances, I prefer these pants over the Phantom Ops just because of the less "tactical" look.
You simply can't go wrong with Vertx pants.
The cut, fit, finish, stitching, materials, hardware, durability ... everything about them screams quality.
Do the Vertx pants cost more than some other pants? Yes? Are they worth it? Absolutely.
I think I am simply spoiled by the Phantom Ops and Phantom Ops Airflow, as those two are, in my opinion, the best pants made. Period. No exaggeration.
All that said, these LT's are still head and shoulders above the rest. For times when the "less tactical" appearance is wanted, these are the go-to pants.

Worth the money!

These are my favorite style of pants. This is my 5th pair. At their normal price, that's really saying something. I do most of my clothes shopping in the clearance section of a lower end sporting goods stores. But, when it comes to comfort and style, these can't be beat. The cargo pockets do exactly what they're meant to. They hold stuff without screaming "mall ninja" or "former warzone contractor". My Iphone fits the internal magazine pocket perfectly. The hidden zippered pocket would be great for CCW as well.
The construction is second to none. The durability on par with any pair of Levis jeans. I had 2 pair in Afghanistan that I cycled through the local laundry at least once a week. They held up for over a year and only have some fraying at the cuffs and have pulled apart a little at the back pocket corners a little bit. I just turned the cuff in 1/4 inch and put some patches on the pocket corners. I imagine I'll get another couple years out of them now that I've got washing machine doing the work.
