作者简介

Rafiq Elmansy is a graphic designer for 10 years with background in traditional art and sculpture. His experience in graphic design includes working in different design projects as well as creative directing. He runs his own design company Pixel Consultations. He is also an Adobe Community Professional, Adobe Certified Expert and the founder and manager of the Adobe user group in Egypt (AUGE). Rafiq is also part of the Adobe Prerelease Program.

Rafiq Elmansy is an author in the graphic and design field, his articles are published in Adobe design and developer center, Adobe Edge magazine, communitymx.com and his design blog www.graphicmania.net. Recently, he becomes a Friend of Icograda (the International Council of Graphic Design Associations).

Great book for the absolute beginner. If you're not sure what a raster file is, start here. The Classroom in a Book series is good but it expects a certain level of understanding that I did not have. This was perfect for me. I would recommend checking these tutorial books out at the library if you need to gauge your understanding.

My copy didn't come with a CD but you can go to the book website to download the project files.

The books is too simplistic. Nothing you can't find on the illustrator help files. There are plenty of other better books.

The books is too simplistic. Nothing you can't find on the illustrator help files. There are plenty of other better books.
For the price, don't waste your money. This should be a $10.00 or less book.

In reviewing books on Adobe Illustrator, I choose the book Illustrator Foundations by Rafiq Elmansy as I felt the book is very well laid out starting from the beginning, and slowly moving onto more advanced topics.

Starting with the first two chapters the book teaches you the basics, and gets you familiar with the Illustrator and how to interact with it. Then in chapter 3 the book teaches you drawing in Illustrator, Chapter 4 goes over color. Chapter 5 teaches you how to use gradients, and chapter 6 goes over patterns. Chapter 7 teaches how editing your artwork, which I really like how this chapter teaches what I feel is the most important part of the book! Chapter 8 goes over brushes, and Chapter 9 goes over type and typography. Chapter 10 goes over masks, and Chapter 11 goes over using image trace, whig thanks to this book I finally understand. Chapter 12. Chapter 13 goes over graphs, which I thought was very well laid out for the beginner. Chapter 14 teaches you all about using the 3D features, I never used 3D before, but the book teaches you this complex subject very well. Chapter 14 goes over using effects, I thought this chapter was very fun, and teaches you how to use all the effects to modify your artwork. Chapter 15 teaches you about the best process to save your Illustrator files.Chapter 16 teaches you how to make web sites mock ups in Illustrator, which I thought was only done in Photoshop. Chapter 17 teaches you all you need to know about printing, and finally Chapter 18 shows you how to interact with other Adobe products like Photoshop & inDesign.

There are lots of books to choose from when you are first starting out with Illustrator, but this book is just excellent! I felt the author was here with me explaining the concepts as I was learning. The book is laid out, and written very well. I especially like the use of images & screenshots to help explain the topics. I would highly this book(or any book written by the author) if you are new to Illustrator. After reading the book cover to cover I now feel very comfortable using the program, and learning import concepts of graphic design in the process.
