You've read all the reviews from the guys saying it jerks too fast and slaps their tone arm. If that was the only thing to be wrong about this thing... .... I mean, it's cool. If I had an ugly turntable I guess it would be OK. But I have a nice looking turntable. This is not nice looking. This is like backstage Buck Rodgers stuff. Ingenious mechanism, and sure it is spring loaded so it pops up - but it doesn't send the tone arm flying or anything like that.

So, it works, but oh, boy, It's just. So. Ugly. If you need the pure utility of this thing, get it. I guess it will work if you can line it up just right. But... Nope. Spend more, you're worth it. The pictures do not do it justice. It's so much worse in real life.

It works fine on my turn table Pro-Ject The Classic SB. It’s action is a little jerky when the arm comes up but no real issues or concerns.

As someone with early onset type 3 diarrhea I wasn’t sure if I’d have the time for a lengthy setup. My GI tract also suffers from Wilford Brimley Syndrome so I never know if my flatulence will be hot air or a wet gusher. Luckily it took about ten minutes of drinking beer and fiddling to setup the Q Up.

The Q Up is plastic and feels a little flimsy and cheap but works great. Time will tell how it holds up but I’m sure it will. With a few up grades I spent about $2k on my turntable. It’s highly laughable to read someone who has spent 2-6 times that amount say how a $40 accessory is expensive. It’s $40, it works, it’s worth the money. I can now pass out drinking beer and doing illicit substances and not have to worry about damaging the stylus I paid more for than a 1/2 ounce good of coke.

I needed such a device as 1. I routinely listen at night and occasional fall asleep 2. Wanted to play my LPs while engaged in other activities

Did some searching on the internet and this was the cheapest available. Preferred a hydraulic version but read that they could be finicky to setup and cost at least 2-3x more.

Still, was worried and skeptical due to 1. narrow space between my arm board and platter and 2. Not sure if spacers has sufficient depth/ height .. I took the risk and ordered 3. Worried that the spring action would be too strong and damage my tonearm

Short: it works , 1. If you are unsure that there is sufficient space to install, go to the manufacturer's website - print out the base template and see if it will fit on your turntable 2. Height - the spacers can be stacked and it was more than sufficient . I did not Need to use the tallest spacer. 3. After a few rounds of fine tuning I got the tone arm to lift gently, it is not as smooth as a hydraulic lifter but gentle enough that my tonearm does not jump up abruptly

Installation was fast, instructions on the website is clear and foolproof. Took 10 min to install. Fine tuning took a further 15-20 min to ensure that the spring action is gentle enough that my tonearm does not jump up abruptly when activated. After a few back and forth trial settings I got it to work well.

Cons - it's a bit flimsy . The notches on the spacer is quite loose, with a slight downward force during installation, the spacer opens up easily and Q Up slides down - I had to readjust the height a few times during installation due to this .

Overall - I am happy with my purchase. The benefits more than make up for the cons. It may seem expensive but it will help preserve your cartridge life and if you look at other devices available in the market , they cost at least 2-3 times more.

This little guy really works. I have had a manual turntable for 20 years and it is a stylus killer. I bought this lift in the hope I could be distracted and not be around when the record ends and not kill my stylus, and yes it does the job! There are two issues though that prevent it getting 5 stars. The first is that one finally must settle on a position for the trigger that errs on the side of caution, and pick up the arm on records with medium and large labels before contact. Otherwise, if set for small labels, it will not be triggered by the time the stylus hits a large diameter label and damage can occur.
So, even after a week of carefully adjusting the best final pick up position ( it is super adjustable, and adaptable),and before putting the final single drop of crazy glue in place to lock the lift so it doesn't move with contact or use, the tonearm lifts up about 10 % of the time before the last song is done on an LP with a small label. This is not serious, and a fair compromise for freedom to roam the house with a treasured record playing with an expensive cartridge. Not so serious.
The second thing is that it feels VERY cheaply made and durability is a concern. I will add an update at 6 to 12 months to see if it is holding up,

Cheap but works.

This works I guess but it is a silly little contraption for the price and the longevity is definitely questionable.

Little hollow piece of plastic.

It’s not automated or electric. It’s a little plastic tower that sits near the base of your tone arm. When the tone arm reaches the a point in the record that you choose, horizontally, it makes contact with a plastic trigger on the tower. That causes the lever that is positioned under your tone arm to dislodge upwards, lifting your tone arm with it.

After lifting the tone arm , the lever remains out of position. You have to reset it with every record.
