Caution on the recommended age

It says the recommended age is 3-5. I would like to caution you on this age recommendation. I would say this book is more appropriate for older children. I teach preschool, and I’m considering using this book with my class if I cannot find something else. I’m going to keep looking. First, I find it very “wordy.” More importantly, there are so many words and terms on each page that would each need to be explained prior or during the story in order for preschoolers to comprehend what the book is describing. Such words and terms include: pollution, gas, liquid, blanket of gas, atmosphere, melting polar ice caps, rising sea levels, extreme weather patterns, climate change, waste, affects, energy, supply source, natural resources, landfills, absorbing, keep our world in balance. These terms are not explained in the story but used as if the reader already knows their meaning. None of these terms are a problem alone, yet when they are all in one 5 minute story, it’s too much. If reading this book to one child, you could answer their questions and check for understanding as you go, but reading it to a class of preschoolers could likely cause them to lose interest. Next, the pictures are as busy as the words. There is so much to look at that a child may not know where to focus. Finally, I don’t enjoy the repeated phrase “Of course not!” A child is just learning these things, therefore why reply with that phrase? It’s a nice book, I just don’t think it’s a right fit for a preschool class.

Great book, nice bright pictures. My grandson loves it and it's a message our children can benefit from learning at an early age. I recommend it!

This is by far the best environmental book for children. It's a powerful book, and it has changed the way my children (ages 6 and 5) view the earth. This book is appropropriate for older children as well. Wonderful book!

Climate Change for Kids

This is a well written book that explains the issues of climate change and the need to recycle to its target age group of 5 - 9 year old children. The illustrations are bright and bold with little additions like squirrels and birds that make you look deeper into the pictures. It doesn't get too heavy into science but handles it nice and lightly.
There is an action plan in the back of the book with ideas that children can promote in their lives to help the Earth - our round house!
