Great shower filters.

I moved during the pandemic to a new neighborhood due to divorce. Nice house, but water is absolutely disgusting. The shower filters help, but I don’t understand what happened with Amazon delivery. The box of shower filters must’ve been seriously tossed around. The box came open and the shower filters were rolling around inside the package and there’s sand all inside the bags. Maybe they rolled the package in my yard too because there was dirt and sand all over the outside of the bag too. Ugh!

Removes Chlorine but water flow decreases with use

I have had the sprite handheld shower head for a little over 6 months, and just inserted the first replacement filters from this purchase. The shower head came with a spare.
It really does remove the chlorine and along with our electronic "water softener" we come out of the shower clean and smooth, without that dry sticky feeling.
According to Sprite website, you are supposed to flip the cartridge once month, however I have found that flipping it 2 weeks works better. KDF in commercial whole house systems backwash the KDF filters, and flipping the cartridge backwashes it and helps to maintain water flow.
The KDF swells as it absorbs the chlorine, the KDF has reduction reaction or in simple terms essentially similar to "rusting" when exposed to chlorine. There is no iron rust created by this filter, but I am trying to explain how KDF works in chemistry terms.
So, as the KDF swells there is a decrease in water flow. So, if there is a "pressure drop" in the showerhead and you have been flipping your filter, its time to replace it. The filters are rated for 3 months, but we probably should have replaced them more often because of reduced water flow. We know when to change the cartridge when the "shower massage" setting does not work properly and/or cannot use the combo setting and some of the water starts to "drip/run" down the head instead of staying in the stream.
I check the furnace/AC filters on the first and fifteenth of every month and that is when I flip the filters. FYI use a Sharpie or some permanent marker to write the installation date on the filter, so you know how long its been in the showerhead.
The filter will need to be replaced more often in summer because the water company puts more chlorine in the water to control algae and because most people take more showers in the summer. And in the winter the cartridges will last longer because there is less chlorine in the water and people shower less.
The KDF new is gold in color and changes to DARK BROWN not black as it says on the cartridge and website when the cartridge needs chaning. I posted a pic showing new and used side by side.
When replacing the filter use a little Vaseline or petroleum jelly on the O-rings. If you do not have petroleum jelly you can use Vicks vapor rub or Mentholatum because they are petroleum jelly based. O-ring makers say do not use petroleum jelly, but for the 3 to 6 months (and water pressure type application) that these cartridges are used will not harm the O-rings.
We have sprite showerheads in two bathrooms and they work well. The only complaint is the life of the cartridge. They are less expensive when you buy them in a four pack, and the price keeps going up.
Currently, its less expensive to use the KDF showerheads, but if the price keeps going up it will be more cost effective to purchase a whole house KDF and install it myself. Whole house KDF systems last 7 to 10 years and there is not flipping cartridges.

Great at removing chlorine and softening your shower water for softer hair and skin

Perfect for use with the Ageless water filter from sprite. These filters are so awesome because they not only soften hard water ( somewhat) but they more importantly filter out the yucky chlorine which is added to the water in most major cities. Chlorine wrecks havoc on your skin, hair and eyes, and it's daily inhalation is terrible for your lungs. This makes your daily shower not only unhealthy, but smelly! ( I hate the smell of chlorine) Most people, however are so used to it, they are somewhat immune, and aren't even aware of the daily danger of exposure to it. Do yourself and your family a favor. Try this filter and you will wonder how you lived without it for so long.
As for me, I have extremely hard water in my home ( I am living temporarily in London, which has notoriously hard water) and these filters really make a difference. ( note...they are not the same as an actual water softening system, but they do soften the water somewhat.) In my opinion, if you are a renter, living in a temporary home ( as I am) or simply cannot afford a whole house softening system, at least if you use this with a sprite filter, you'll avoid bathing daily in yucky, hard, chlorinated water, and you can soften it a bit as well.
My hair is no longer dry and matted to my head soon after washing. My skin is no longer itchy and dry, and my shower and tub have less lime scale for me to clean. Notice, I say LESS. Remember, These filters are not a cure all for hard water, but where they really perform is tackling those smelly vapors from chlorine, which is primarily why I buy them.
Remember to change the filter every 2-4 months ( Two if your shower is constantly used, three- four if used less) and also, once a month, unscrew your showerhead, take out the filter, turn it around the opposite way, and re insert it, as according to manufacturer instructions, as this improves performance.

I purchased these as I liked the idea of having 1 years worth (replacing filter every three months) on hand. I suppose they work as well as the previous one's I was using. Time will tell. What I don't like off the bat is how difficult they are to remove as opposed to my previous brand.
The old one had been in the holder for at least 6 months maybe longer before I replaced it with one of these. I was able to take the old filter out using pliers and didn't break or even chip. I put one of these in and the next day tired to remove it and it was impossible. Went at it with pliers like the other brand and it just broke in pieces leaving most of the cartridge inside the holder.
Not only was I upset that I had just destroyed a brand new filter but I had to find some way to get the remnants of the damn thing out of the holder without destroying that too.
I managed to get it out and prior to placing another filter in I applied some Leslie's Pool and Spa Lube liberally on the ends around where the o-ring is. We'll see if that prevents further mishaps.
