'It is a demolition, you writhe, you cry, but if you have a shred of honesty you cannot stop looking. His descriptions get too close to the intimate. There is abundant evidence; the facts pile up with abundant precision...There is nowhere to go and nowhere to hide: he is talking about you...This is not a path for those who have a week stomach. But who said that transformation might be easy?'
I could not say it articulately as this reviewer did about another of Naranjo's books. In fact, that is exactly what we both felt, my wife and I when we read a couple of pages referring to her (a II) and myself ( a V). I am in the process of reading this book again after13 years. Now, that I've matured I am even more stunned about the depth of Claudio's psychological insights. I must have read ten's of Enneagram books, and nobody comes close to this psychological surgeon.
This book is quite compact and terribly concise if you are serious about self-transformation. The single most tragedy that happens to us is the relentless repetition of our own ego-construction after a certain age. Friedrich Nietzsche:
'But the single most enemy you can meet will always be yourself...You must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame: how could you become new, if you had not first become ashes?' Whether you call it demolition or burning, real rejuvenation does not come from mere modification.
