Not as flat overall as they seem from the pictures

I bought these because I was hoping they were flat plates with a lip, and the pictures make it look like that might be the case. The plates are almost shaped like very, very shallow bowls. If you put anything saucy or juicy on the plate it will pool to the other food in the middle, which is a noticeable drawback since they are so large. You can't place one of the matching sauce dishes on one side of the plate without the sauce spilling over because of the angle. If you want the dish to sit flat, it has to be perfectly centered. If you cut a steak on one side of the plate with any force at all, the plate will tip (as I saw someone else mention).

These are pretty enough that I won't be returning them, but they are not my dream dishes. Wishing they were because I bought the full set. Also, one plate came broken and Amazon only gave me the opportunity to return the WHOLE BOX. I had already unpacked everything and washed the stickers off, I wasn't going to re-pack all that for the very bottom broken plate to be replaced. Wish there was a way to file for a return of only the broken parts.

Large, sturdy, but thin dinnerware set

I've been using these plates for a few months. They are nice, sturdy and large. The bowls are awesome, they are a great size for soups, salads, rice bowl dinners, etc. I wouldn't recommend them for cereal, but that's my preference. The salad plates are almost big enough for an adult dinner.

My issues are that the dinner plates are a bit too big, and the base of the plate is too small. So, when you are cutting too far near the edge, the plate tips up. I'm bummed. I bought two sets, and did extensive research prior to buying. However, these are not my dream white plates.

Simple, Creamy White Elegance

I used to have the Italian Swirl pattern from Pier One and I loved it, but they discontinued the pattern before I had more than 4 place settings. So when I married my husband, a potter, we replaced the set with dishes he had made. Which were lovely but REALLY heavy. Sore wrists when putting dishes away heavy. So I ordered some Sango dishes that looked like pottery dishes- after 4 years I was tired of their oppressive brown color.

So for nice dinners I bought Red Vanilla's Coupe plates- the 12" ones. Food looks so good on white. Lamb with minced pease pudding and scalloped potatoes made a gorgeous little tower in the middle. We like them so much we decided we wanted the set. Although this set advertises that it has the Coupe plates, they are 11"- not the same plates I had ordered individually. But they match regardless. We can continue to use the 12" plates for extra special dinners or use them as platters. My husband thinks the coffee mugs get a little hot, but he holds his fingers closer to the mug than I do. I find them comfortable and it's nice to have coffee in bed with them as our bedclothes are white. It all feels luxurious. :)

We have chicken wire in front of our cupboards and the white dishes showing through is luscious. Very pleased with our purchase!
