I bought this amp back in 2019 and delayed a review until I could fully assess product durability. It is used to power a Dayton Audio 10 sub(IOSUB 10" IP66) in a 18' x 30' patio - so it s not on all the time nor does it get the same workout that would come from powering a home theater passive sub. Having said that - I love this amp. More than enough power for my patio. The adjustable crossover and gain allow it to be tuned specifically for your setting and main speakers. I have a Crown XLS1002 inside that drives a passive sub as part of a home theater system - while it offers a bit more in terms of settings, it also costs more. For my patio the Dayton Audio works perfect. Highly recommend if you are looking for an amp to power your outdoor sub. Also - if that is what you are shopping for take a good look at the Dayton Audio IOSUB 10" IP66 Sub - I have been very pleased with it as well.

I install home theaters as a hobby and have plenty of powered subwoofers. So when installing a home theater for a client he gave me a ton of old home theater gear including a Sunfire Super Jr sub but with non working amp. So quickly converted to passive subwoofer but needed an outboard amp so had a spareDayton Audio APA 150 which works just fine but wanted more control of the amp so bought this SA230 amp. I'm using this just for a stereo music system in my bedroom and this amp pushes the Sunfire sub perfectly fine and blends well with my Boston Acoustic bookshelf speakers to enjoy my diverse taste of Jazz and Rock. Wonderful amp.

When, over several years, my ancient Polk 10" sub blew out 3 manufacture's stock amplifiers and after much research, I decided to go with this table-top amp. Turns out, it is solidly built and has several great features. It has variable gain, frequency and phase controls that allow the user to make precise adjustments that fit the sub, acoustically speaking, into their individual room/speaker set-up. While you can turn it on/off via a front panel button, it also has a timed sensor that turns the amp on and off at the appropriate times, without owner intervention. Or, it can turn on with a 12 volt DC trigger signal provided by many Home Theater receivers, using a standard 1/8 inch trigger cable. The SA-230 connectivity is outstanding! It has a LFE input, fixed RCA inputs and speaker level inputs to facilitate connectivity with any audio amplifier/receiver. It has a back panel bass boost control, for which I found no practical use in my situation! This thing delivers PLENTY of juice to my sub. Rated at 230 watts into a (minimum) 4 ohm load, this should be enough power to satisfy most people's audio subwoofer needs. Dayton does offer a SA-1000 table top sub amp, if you REALLY, REALLY need THAT much power. Highly and happily recommended.

I'm using this amp to power a 4 ohm 15" Image Dynamics ID in a 4 cubic foot sealed box and it sounds great. So glad someone sells an inexpensive Class A/B sub amp with infinitely variable phase control. The variable bass boost for room correction is a nice touch as well. Buuut, it's not perfect. Bumped the score down to a 4 for the following:

The power indicator is an incredibly bright blue LED (picture attached) which shines directly up into my eyes where I sit in my livingroom. Electronics companies, please stop using blue LEDs for power indicators, I'm begging you.

The auto-on circuit isn't sensitive enough. With my subwoofer output at normal (+/-0dB) I have to turn my receiver up to like 50+ (normal listening volume is 40) to get it to kick on. Not a huge deal since I'm using the included 12v trigger, but just something to be aware of.

The knobs on the front, even when pushed in, are too easy to turn - just brushing against the unit can turn them.

Anyway, great amp with some minor, correctable niggles.

Should have bought this from the start. I have a DIY sub, but wasn't sure which amp to install. Having a separate amp also makes it easy to upgrade. My first amp went kaput and I was limited to replacement options. So, I just covered the hole. added a terminal and got this amp. Having the controls easily accessible is great for fine tuning. However, I did have to put some tape over the power light; it is very bright. Especially when the only light in the room is the TV monitor. Quiet turn on/off, and no hum. I'm satisfied.
