The only reason why I'm not giving it five starts is because of two things:
1) There's a plastic inside the border of the brim that makes it rigid -- because of the hat's crushable nature, it'll eventually start popping out. You can't just easily slide the thing back into place, because the piece is so long and rigid, so I ended up yanking it out.
2) The crown of the hat -- well, the top part -- will start to deform from the crushing. It ends up looking like it's been -- well -- crushed.
So just keep those two things in mind.
1. Wish they would give a sizing chart. Such as a Large is equal to what inch range. I had to go off other comments and took a best guess. But got the hat today and it is too tight. So for others. I used a tape measure to measure around my head, and it was 23". Went with the large, but it was just too tight. Could get it on, but new it would give me a headache if I wore it too long. So returning for x-large.
2. Picture shows a flat brim. When I received mine the brim is slightly curled up. So where I was wanting a more hiking style hat, with the brim slightly curled up it looks more western than I wanted. Probably something that can be done to flatten it. Or maybe some people like it this way? But pointing that out for others.
Otherwise, it looks pretty much as pictured and described. Seems to be good quality, but I have not worn it due to the size.
I recommend wearing it in the first heavy rain shower you can find. Getting rained on once really softened it up.
I did replace the lace with a softer leather lace, bought cheaply at a local craft store.
I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised with this hat. It looked really good! Kind of an Indiana Jones thing going on but not in a cheesy way. As a testament to its durability, it arrived in a soft shipping bag but looked crisp and new when I took it out (and if you think your packages aren't being mishandled at some point along the ride, you haven't observed as many delivery people as I have). Also, it traveled crunched up in backpacks and suitcases without losing shape very much (I do recommend packing flat, if possible, or at least rolled up symmetrically because at one point my brim did get a little lopsided due to careless stuffing).
The cap is a bit shallow, so the drawstring helps keep it in place. Watch the bead... I suggest tying knots at the end of your strings because I lost my bead before I even left my apartment (it's probably there somewhere but I have a theory it skipped to another dimension because I looked for hours; it's not a large apartment.) Mesh worked nicely to let breeze through, but doesn't look cheap. Lastly, I was happy that this hat is made in the USA. Feels good to support homegrown businesses and jobs.
