The gates app is well intentioned and does help provide some information you’ll need, but it doesn’t come close to the accuracy of this. I consider this a must have.
I use this on both my bike and my daughters bike to keep the tension as close to perfect as possible.
Another reason to have one is for your flat fix kit. You really should tension correctly after a tire or tube change when possible. This makes it super easy. The app could be wildly off, especially if you’re in a noisy environment.
Not cheap for a simple mechanical device, but worth it IMO.
