Quality:
They are very pigmented and easy to work with. When I used cheaper watercolors, the resulting painting would be covered in a chalky residue from the paints. The Kuretake watercolors do not leave residue, and the paint does not fade much over time. One gripe I have with this product is that when the paint is applied over another layer of paint, a dark ring of the color will appear on the edges of where the paint is applied. Usually, this is fixed with some blending, but it can be bothersome.
Price:
These are a great deal. As mentioned above, there can be some blending issues—however, for thirteen dollars, they mix new colors fairly well and they come in large pans, so they don’t run out easy. So far the only color I cannot create with these twelve colors is turquoise.
Durability:
The box the colors come in is not the sturdiest, but so far it has not broken or failed on me in any way. I travel with my watercolors, and none have broken in the box when I take them with me. Each color has its own individual tray, and they can be taken out with ease. I find this a great for convenience. For example, if an artist wanted to paint a tree outside and only needed red, green, and blue, each color pops out so they can be taken outside, without bringing the entire kit.

I love the colors here. I am not professional but at this stage, I tried so many brands! I can tell these are more vibrant and layer so well. If I could justify to buy the huge one, I will. I want even more colors! These were identified by an online artist. I’m not sure if they are student grade or professional- but they outdo any of the level I got at the craft store in level one or 2. I really see the hype of watercolor and filling in sketches now. I was using cheap paint and now I won’t- these are satisfying. I do recommend.

It was a gift, so I really can't speak for the person who received it, but I actually bought one for myself a while back and have been using the set a lot. It did take a bit to learn how to use it since it is not the same composition as European watercolors. Gansai Tambi is uniquely Japanese. I suggest looking at some U-tube videos for some explanations. I have no complaints...colors are bright and medium spreads nicely. Definitely used watercolor paper
for best results.
