These simple LED lights are prefect. They can be attached to virtually any bicycle. They are completely weather proof - Proven in a torrential downpour a couple years ago that made it nearly impossible to see the road let alone a bicycle on it. And, they can burn a long time.
In my application, the cost of these is low enough that when I pull out a package to attach to a bike, I simply tell them to keep the lights. The hassle of trying to find and return on a dark campus with thousands of riders simply isn't worth the effort.
While I set up the lights in a steady mode most of the time, I have used the flashing mode (during that rain for example) to try to keep the riders safe in unusual situations. The fact that both modes are available is a big plus.
I will continue to purchase these as I need them.
When I installed the new batteries, the white light worked. However, about three hours later, when I tried to use the light again, the batteries were dead. The light was NOT on during those three hours, and I used a voltmeter and discovered that the two batteries were, in fact, dead. It appears that there is a short somewhere in the light's circuitry that causes the batteries to drain continuously, whether on or not.
For electrical engineers and/or electricians:
I measured the current drawn by the light both when on and off (with a constant 6v source connected), and found that when on, the light draws about 60mA, but when off, it still draws 40mA. Clearly a short.
In short, I wouldn't recommend buying these lights. I spent about $7 on the lights and $7 on replacement batteries, and I still only get to use one of them.
