Coffee Bean Direct Coffee Roasters Breakfast Blend -- Whole Bean Coffee -- 5 lb.
This is a medium-bodied blend of light and dark beans with a hint of acidity and tartness. Ideal as a morning cup, it has a smooth and subdued flavor that stands up well to cream and sugar while still providing that essential morning boost. The coffee beans are slow-roasted to bring out a fuller, more even flavor. Whole bean coffee stays fresher longer. Coffee beans are packaged to ensure optimal freshness.
I drink a lot of coffee, at least one full 12 cup pot every day. I like it strong and I only drink it black, so no chance to cover up bad tastes. I find no bitterness or acidic taste to this coffee at all, and I even brewed this first pot a bit stronger than I usually do (based on the level of the beans in the grinder). The beans do not have a particularly strong or heady smell (somewhat disappointing), but they do have a fresh appearance, as opposed to some garbage brands that are bought several years old for pennies on the dollar.
I am not a coffee connoisseur or "snob", but I certainly know what I like, and I offer the following information only to help any reader decide if my review might be meaningful to their specific tastes: First of all, I am frugal, probably even "cheap". I have found many excellent coffees over the years, but I just won't pay the usually stupid high prices to drink them every day., so I am always on the lookout for a new find at an excellent price. Coffees I generally find excellent include Blue Mountain, Jamaican, Ethiopian, and Honduran. I am not a particular fan of Kona beans, but most anything from Kauai is excellent. I prefer a dark roast, but I absolutely DETEST anything sold by Starjokes, and I will not drink that garbage even if it is free. Burnt dirt is NOT an acceptable flavor. No "flavored" coffee is ever acceptable - even the smell of them makes me gag.
Some complained that the taste wasn't to their liking, if ground and brewed correctly this shouldn't be a issue, I have yet to have a acidy cup but perhaps I am just not a "coffee snob". Perhaps they just want that "burnt just this side of hell" taste popular among the "popular" coffee houses. This is a light roast coffee though, expressly made to bring out the oils and caffeine that make a good cup of coffee taste rich and full. They might want to stick with their Extra Dark Roasts if they want that burnt flavor or just go to their "popular" coffee houses and pay the exorbitant price per pound to get that flavor they so much desire.
I for my part have found this wonderfully roasted, flavorful and well caffeinated coffee. Oh and a permanent coffee filter will help from the paper filters absorbing those wonderful oils and are more earth friendly as well.
I didn't have high expectations of this but I assumed it would be a somewhat passable bean. I mean, it's called the poor man's blend and happened to be the cheapest thing on Amazon for whole bean coffee but at least for me, the acidity from the hot brewed coffee makes this unusable for me. Fortunately, my wife prefers her coffee cold brew and a fine grind with a cold brew really salvages some flavor and caffeine.
2 grind and brew types:
Brew: Cold brewed in a fridge for 12hrs
Flavor: light berry flavor. slightly acidic
Grind:course grind through a conical burr
Brew: French press with hot water for 3.5 to 5 minutes
Flavor: The acidity was overpowering to the point where I just couldn't drink more than a few sips.
No way. Not for me. I've made some sales, and can't wait to try some of their more high falutin offerings.
Keep it up!!
