I have had this same watch color and model for 7 years. My first one, that still functions perfectly, has gotten a bit scratched, dulled color and served its time. I work in law enforcement so this watch lasting that long and still functioning without issue has me sold! I ordered 2 more just so I know I have a replacement in another 7 years in case this model is discontinued by then. Or upgraded and more costly......I’d recommend this watch for any sports/outdoors man/woman. I’m female, and it isn’t too bulky like most sport watch faces are these days.....photos: Right side- New one. Left side- 7 years strong!

I've been using this as my work watch for the last few months. And so far, no deal breakers. Especially for the price.
Ironically, the camo skin blends knicks (which show white) along the casing very well.
The plastic feels plyable and satin to the touch. Makes the watch very light, almost as if it wasn't there.
The time and day of the month readout is large and logical at first glance. You have to stare really close to read the small readouts (the day of the week, and what mode you are in) but I rarely read those.

It would be wise to read the manual to get a feel for the buttons' purposes and the many functions of the watch. Once you do that, it's pretty simple.

Cons:

Like all watches that don't have breathable bands, a lot of sweat gets trapped in between the watch and gets especially itchy. My solution was to keep the band two sizes looser so my skin could breath without the watch dancing around on my wrist.

The night light only stays on for a few seconds per press and, although still readable from up close, not bright.

That's about it.

Really like the watch. I've always worn analog watches just because they are easy to set. This was easy to set and go through the functions with the directions. Hopefully I'll mesmerize them . Bought it to work in my yard with, exercise with and to go to amusement parks and a cheap travel watch. Guy on YouTube put it through his washing machine and in his freezer and it still works. Might no be g'shock tough but close enough and less than 20 dollars makes it a good deal. I can see myself collecting these.

Had two of the exact same watch for a couple of years now, and have received numerous complements on it. Minus a star for a few reasons listed below. My second watch has been skipping when pressing any of the buttons, as in it would think you're pressing the button twice or three times (fun when you cycling through the different modes.)

Pros
- Hourly chime
- Inexpensive so feel free to bang it up

Cons
- CANNOT shut of the chime, it beeps every single time you press a button.
- The buttons on the side, can be easily (pressed/snagged). There is no guard to prevent pressing the buttons by accident, for example, you can set a time, and easily (accidentally) press the correct button to stop the time.

UPDATE
- Decided to give an update, I used the watch well after the loop (holds the strap down) broke, then the plastic silver ring around the clear screen came off, eventually the straps itself finally broke and I thought it's time for a new watch. Next watch was the Armitron 40/8335WHT Sport Watch (black/green), but the strap broke easily and I think it's because I left the strap too loose around my wrist. I now have the Armitron 40/8347COR orange camouflage and I like it a lot, but the shiny orange ring around the watch face is starting to peel due to wear. I have been using this new watch for many months now and I still enjoy the Armitron brand, cheap, reliable, wouldn't care if I scratched it up.

One suggestion is if anyone is looking to buy this watch (408188GMG) but the inability to turn off the chime bugs you. I would suggest the one I'm using now 40/8347COR (Orange camouflage) or the 40/8335WHT (black/green), it let's you turn the chime off, and the buttons on the side do no stick out so no unnecessary snags.

UPDATED REVIEW January 8th, 2015 - I just ordered a replacement Armitron watch just because this watch has been the best I have ever owned. Can you believe it? I ordered a different model today but I am amazed how many compliments I have received over the years and I have literally beat this watch silly. I swim, bike, run, camp, hike....This watch I am replacing is scratched but still works great. The backlight is fading but I suspect it just needs a replacement battery. I have changed my rating to 5 stars. I am still amazed the value for such an inexpensive watch.

ORIGINAL REVIEW - This is my first Armitron watch....I am a triathlete and typically have used Timex Ironman watches for years and my last one was pretty beat up. So, I thought I would dress things up a bit with this watch. Very easy to setup after reading the instructions. Really cool layout once you get used to looking for the the information like the date, etc. For the money or really the less amount of money it is hard for me to believe I got this so cheaply. The super chrome surface areas maybe make it look cheap or maybe not. I got a compliment on the watch last night. So, not sure why I only gave it 4 stars but this early on it is hard for me to believe such a watch is so cheap. I will probably post a note down the road. But, even if this watch only lasts six months (but, other reviewers allege their Armitrons last for years...) who cares for $20?
