Got the Life: My Journey of Addiction, Faith, Recovery, and Korn (English Edition) Kindle电子书
广告
From Reggie “Fieldy” Arvizu, legendary bassist of nu-metal pioneers KORN, comes Got the Life: a no-holds-barred look at his extreme highs, drug- and-booze-fueled lows, and, finally, redemption through a conversion to Christianity. Got the Life is simultaneously an insider’s look at rock n’ roll superstardom—the good, the bad, and everything in between—and a survivor’s story of a life brought back from the precipice by a new found belief in religious salvation.

From Publishers
Repetitive and vague, this memoir from former Korn bassist Fieldy is a slog only fans could love. For 200 pages, addiction dominates the narrative of Fieldy's rock and roll career, which revolves numbingly around the same two points: "I didn't realize what a jerk I was" and "I didn't want to talk... I just wanted to drink and get high." That might explain why he can't seem to remember much from the band's early days, painted in broad strokes: "It was a rough tour but we still managed to do whatever was necessary to get through"; "Somehow, between all of the tours and being on the road, I had gotten my first wife pregnant." Fieldy fares better when he reaches the recovery and faith stage, confessing that "I don't want my children to go through the depths of hell to discover there's a better way." Fieldy's redemption seems sincere (though readers may wonder if his apologetic letters to former friends weren't written for the book), but his tale is strictly for those impressed by details like "I knew DJ Lethal from his days of being in House of Pain, though he would later join Limp Bizkit." Photos.

Was a Korn fan early on in their career, and while I stopped following their music after “Follow the Leader” I had a strong “connection” to the members based on my age at the time of my personal fandom (read: fangirl) I read previously read Heads autobiography and had hesitated to read Fieldys, unsure of sincerity vs profits. I found this book to be an easy and quick read which kept my interest. I’ve seen other reviews criticizing the lack of details on his time in Korn itself, however I found this book to be filled with personal stories about the band and the members interactions with one another; significantly more so than Heads book. I didn’t find it overly preachy, and I believe Fieldy leads by example. Watching, for example “Who then now?” or any of the countless clips showing the members off stage and the calming peace Fieldy clearly now possesses is both noticeable and genuine. The ONLY aspect I did not like was his decision to write each member of the band (David included) a “personal” letter, to be mailed as soon as he was done copying the words into his book. This felt disingenuous and attention seeking? Overall, this is a great book for some personal Korn info, and an interesting take on life by Fieldy.

Fairly well written. Very informative on the things an addict good through. Not an addict myself but trying to understand one. This book helped and also gave me hope.

There are a lot of shocking things that have happened in Fieldy's life and the book is very revealing. I think that's great because it's good to see people open up about their lives and share those details. I enjoyed his bandmates book (Brian Welch) as well and even though I was never a big fan of Korn or that genre of music I felt like both of their books were really on my wave length while I was reading them. maybe because I enjoy personal memoir so much or because i'm an artist (visual artist, painting, drawing) and can relate to wanting to follow your dreams and all the other distractions that come about in life. I recommend everyone check out this book along with Brian's books.

A Worthy Read for Korn Fans

If you're a Korn fan, it's definitely an interesting read in terms of Fieldy's journey and the band's chronology. Lots of neat stories and insight into the band with all the highs and lows. It's refreshing to see someone who's brutally honest and sheds light on his state of mind and trying to find a path toward a more fulfilling life.
The last 20-25% of the book didn't really cut it as it felt repetitive and overly preachy. He couldn't driven the point home in far fewer pages. It's understandable how Fieldy wants to give his story of redemption and show how he's a changed man, but it could've been done more succinctly. Perhaps it's just because I was more interested in Korn-related info. The latter part of the book may be better suited to those in a similar place looking to overcome addictions or other issues.
Nevertheless, if you're a Korn fan, "Got The Life" is worth checking out.

Would have loved to learn more about the financials of being a rock star. How much money Fieldy was earning various years (take home pay) as well as some of the stuff he bought. However, learning how he was raised and what he thought the purpose of his life was, was pretty interesting. He was a rich rock star with worshiping fans and admired by many for his creativeness and partying lifestyle. He admits in the book that he knew the lifestyle he was living was wrong, but, continued to do it knowing that there would eventually be consequences. He was one of the most hard-core, heaviest partying, hardest rocking, self-centered punks out there... and he managed to turn his life around and become a person who is now admired for the right reasons. If you're a huge Korn fan you'll love the book.
