False Advertising but Props to Amazon for Fixing

Like SJS's review in Dec 2013, I bought this product last July 2013 and the manufacturer's box said "Standard Yield" but a "homemade" barcode paper label on the box stated that it was the "High Yield". Except that I didn't notice because I purchased the product as a spare item and it sat on a shelf for 9 months. When I took the box off the shelf to use it, is when I noticed that it was actually the standard yield toner. The pasted-on-top paper label that says "High Yield" was not convincing (I believe what is printed on the box itself by the manufacturer) so rather than open the box I called up Amazon (yep, you can actually call them on the phone) to explain the situation. The rep looked up my order and the product and he said "yes, I see that this is a known issue that some inventory was incorrectly marked with a high-yield label on a standard-yield box" and he promptly sent me a UPS return label and gave me a refund. I'm ordering this product again, wish me luck that I get the high-yield one this time! 5 stars because Amazon recognized the error and let me do a return 9 months later.

Separate toners rock

This is my second magenta toner, and I seem to go through toner at a fairly predictable rate (which is about 6 months slower than I originally anticipated). I always get a full run out of toner, but back when I used ink, I never used it up before it dried out: even black. that's not even considering the advantage of separate colors, as many ink printers have one cartridge for color. I estimate my real cost per page at less than 3 cents. At best inkjets are twice that (if you can use all the ink before it dries or one of the colors runs out). My estimates of real use was usually many times that. I also feel the consistent quality of pictures is much higher than the inkjets: no banding or striping, and no running when wet. Not to mention I can print on pretty much any paper (another cost saver and display advantage).

Anyone saying their inkjet is more cost effective is not doing the math.

Replacement cartridges for a Lexmark c540n. I got printer dirt cheap, new at Best Buy or Office Depot in 2009. The printer would go through tonnes of toner, all colors, even with little use. I moved up to the 2500 page high capacity cartridges to try to cut costs. Then Lexmark sent out new firmware that stopped the constant cycling that used up the toner. Printer is much more efficient at using the toner, but I continue to buy the high capacity cartridges. My most recent purchase in December 2015 was first replacement in nearly two years. These high capacity cartridges seem to last a lot longer than the previous vendors',

I have not tried the new cartridge, the old one is still working but is almost out of toner. That's why I ordered a new one when I did, not being able to print while waiting for a new one was important to me. I am sure the new one will work fine, it's just a toner cartridge.

TOO COSTLY TO OPERATE!

It's simple. Lexmark has a lock on the production and refill of their toner cartridges, and they charge an excessively high amount for the ink. I am captive, and while they may find that quite profitable in the short term, they will find that Lexmark has lost my long-standing loyalty, that on the basis of my experience, my son just purchased a Brother, and that I will be looking at competitive products in the future.
