Scotts- Recommended Feeding Routine: Early Spring
An early spring feeding helps grass green-up after winter. You should feed around the first time you mow your grass.
Make lawn care simple by following these 4 Easy Steps:
1. Feed Regularly
Feeding your lawn twice in the spring and twice in the fall helps strengthen it to crowd out weeds and protect against heat and drought. There are Nitrogen-rich lawn foods that can be applied to any grass type and many products are kid and pet friendly when used as directed. If you want to kill dandelions and other major lawn weeds* while you feed, you can apply Weed & Feed products. *See label for listed weeds.
2. Mow High and Return Clippings
Mowing at a higher height allows the grass to grow in thick and develop a strong, deep root system. Leaving grass clippings on the lawn helps to recycle plant nutrients back into the soil.
3. Water Your Lawn
Well-fed lawns use water more efficiently than their unfed counterparts but you still need to water your lawn! When grass needs water, it will let you know by wilting or dulling in color. Try to take advantage of nature’s sprinkler instead of your own as often as possible and rely on the rain to water your lawn.
4. Repair Bare Spots
Reseeding bare areas in your lawn helps keep it thick and prevents weeds from taking hold. There are number of combination grass seed products available that are great for different kinds of lawns. Try Scotts EZ Seed products!

Unless this sounds like an appealing process to you, save yourself some unnecessary grief and frustration and avoid this product like the plague!
Update: Scotts offered a full refund if I cut the sheath off the control cable and send it to them. Instead, I cut the whole EdgeGuard piece off the bottom of the spreader. Now it works fine and I have a hopper that holds 15000 sq. ft. bags. Maybe they should offer this spreader both ways.
Update 2: Still have issues with the fertilizer building up inside the wheels during the applications that have to be done when the grass is wet. Hey Scotts, MAKE THE WHEELS SOLID INSIDE!!!!!
