3M 845 Book Tape is a tough crystal-clear transparent tape with a long-aging, synthetic adhesive that conforms readily to book contours and flexes with cover movements. Excellent for repairing, reinforcing, protecting and covering bound edges and surfaces. Use on books, magazines, pamphlets, record album jackets and more. The transparent polypropylene backing has excellent clarity which doesn't hide title information or printing and saves time and money by eliminating relabeling. It is tough, flexible, resists abrasion and cracking, and is conformable which reduces rebinding or replacement costs. Its synthetic adhesive is long aging and will not discolor or dry out so it won't deteriorate with time causing possible subsequent repair. Widths shown in dropdown are in inches. NOTES: Sizes shipped will typically be the tape industry standard metric-cut sizes, i.e. 24mm for each 1 inch of nominal tape width ordered (rolls are approximately 5% narrower than the nominal size). This product's actual size is 36mm x 13.7m.
Examples of what I fixed with this tape: book bindings that had been torn in half, pages that had been torn in half or ripped, cardboard covers where the artwork had been ripped and torn away...
The end result isn't flawless. You are obviously going to see that it was once ripped and taped back, but if realigned closely and taped without bunching, you are going to get decent results. In my case, I was able to return the books to the classroom to continue to be used by the children.
I am now ordering this tape to repair one of my daughter's favorite books. It is a board book, she is one, and she often likes to hold it herself, sometimes causing damage to the binding. It saddened me to take her favorite book from her so I ordered a roll of this tape for myself to reinforce the binding and keep it usable for her.
I would like to mention that this review's positive rating is based solely on the product and not the seller (I realize most people will use different sellers). It is taking a ridiculously long time to receive a simple roll of tape in the mail, and I encourage you to read the reviews of your sellers to ensure you are ordering from someone that takes your order seriously rather than sitting on it for weeks before shipping.
Since many of my books are rare and some are very old or collectible, I try to keep them repaired without sending them to repair service. That is great but expensive and I cannot justify such a cost.
I have learned to do good repairs on my own books through proper tape, glue and tools. This is one of those items I use.
