说是8月3日到，7月29日就到了。东西完整，不容易，只是管子灰很多，难道出厂就这样？价格偏贵，不过比国内行货要便宜很多。

Major design flaws endanger your health

This purifier worked great when it was brand new. After a few seasons of field use, the o-rings started to fail. You might think this is a minor maintenance issue but it's not. First, there are 7 o-rings and it's not obvious which has given out. On my last backpacking trip, the o-rings failed and I replaced all of them and coated the new ones with silicone grease per the instructions. The purifier still leaked.

Now we come to the worst part. When an o-ring seal fails, the unit drips unfiltered water directly into your clean water bottle. A few drops of giardia-contaminated water is all it will take to ruin your trip and potentially put you in the hospital.

By the way, when replacing the o-rings on the pump pistons, there's a good chance the connecting rods for the pistons will come loose. Reassembling these is like solving a level 5 Hanayama 3D puzzle. I love Hanayama puzzles, but not when they are part of life sustaining wilderness equipment.

This is a device that you will rely on to keep you alive and healthy in the backcountry and it has very bad design flaws that may put your health at risk. Katadyn really needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. I recommend you do not buy it!

Whatever you do, don’t throw it in the river!

I purchased this product intending it to be my main filtration system for backpacking. Once it arrived I read the owner’s manual and did an obligatory 2-liter test pump prior to taking it out on a multi-day trip up the Bogachiel River on the Olympic Peninsula, which was to be its break-in run. The unit performed perfectly in my apartment....

In the field however, while light and relatively compact in the pack, it failed during the filling of the second (2nd!) Nalgene. I had packed the lubricant and replacement O-rings (just in case!), however no level of repair resolved the issue: while the mechanics of the pump seemed to work, there was simply no water flow.

The instructions, which I had downloaded onto my phone (just in case!) recommended lubricating the O-rings (nope), cleaning the ceramic filter (nope) or replacing the O-rings entirely and re-lubricating (nope) while detailed, could not help the fundamental flaws of the design. Replacing and lubricating the new O-rings did, however, get it to leak a bit out the side which, in my deliriously thirsty state, I took as an improvement. (Should I have had to initiate repairs/lubrication after < 5 liters? The answer is of course No). After about 30 minutes of this, I briefly considered throwing the whole thing in the river, however the environmental impact along with the realization that I’d never get my $90 back stayed my hand.

So I boiled my water with an old JetBoil for two days. No worries: Made it off the trail in good health, had a fabulous spot under three old-growth spruce, Amazon has kindly and rapidly refunded my account, and I now sit in front of a generous pour of 17-year Caol Ila unpeated single malt. All is well... except at Katadyn where apparently confusion reigns.

I have learned it does not come pre-lubed, so if you get this take it apart and lube the rubber rings and moving parts. I have had this filter for about 4 years now. I have taken it on several back country trips. It worked well twice. The several other times I have always had issues with this pump. It always seemed to build backpressure inside the pump causing it to either slowly trickle water out or made it difficult to pump. I have to break it down and put it back together every trip to pump water. Katadyn customer service is awesome. They felt maybe the head portion was faulty and sent me a new head section. Same problem though. I always maintained this after every trip, so it isn't a maintenance issue, there seems to be an actual flaw. The online research I did have found others who fixed the pump by removing the ceramic portion which turns it into a single stage pump. Katadyn is high quality, but this design (in my opinion) doesn't work well. I purchased the Katadyn "Hiker" (Grey colored one) and couldn't be happier with it. I'm getting rid of this Vario and sticking with the Hiker model.

Best filter I’ve used

For the past 11 years I have spent 8 days a year hiking/camping with buddies. I have gone through numerous pumps and this is my favorite. The msr mini is more durable and the filter lasts a lot longer but it pumps super slow. This baby can fill my water bottle really fast. It costs more fire the replacement filters as well (mini is $40) by $12 but I’m still ok with that. The one thing I don’t like about this filter is the paper filter doesn’t last at all. If the water is really harsh the paper filter will only last about two weeks on the slow mode. For me it is still worth it solely based on how fast and easy it pumps. You have to lube up the rings regularly but this filter is really reliable. A couple friends have it as well and no one has had a problem at all. Oh yeah another difference between the mini and this filter is the mini starts pumping slow when you need to clean the filter and this one leaks around the middle. I can pump one liter with the mini between cleaning the filter and two with this filter. Saves me a little time and makes it less annoying to get water. I’ve never gotten sick with any of the filters I’ve used. The base camp is garbage and so is any filter that only has a paper cartridge. They don’t last and get clogged way too easily. If you go on a trip where you are totally dependent on a filter to clean your water you must have a ceramic cartridge. Hope this review helps.
