The very limited directions sheet that comes with the MA400 doesn't suggest how to use it with a single guitar and a Loudbox amp (or a DI). It took me several weeks to figure it out. Here's my solution: 1) You'll need TWO 1/4" cables: one for the guitar input, and the second one to carry that signal to the amp. How long those cables need to be depends on whether you're wearing the MA400 on a belt pack and whether you're moving around a stage with your guitar. Here's the hookup sequence: a) Plug the guitar into the 1/4" input on the back side of the MA400. b) Plug the second 1/'4" cable into the 1/4" monitor output on the front of the MA400, and the other end into into the "Guitar In" port on your amp. c) Set the MA400 on mono output so it fully utilizes both sound out channels. Finally, you may need to set your guitar on full volume to a strong enough signal through to the XLR connection on your amp/DI and out to the sound board. In our church (Timberline Church, Fort Collins CO) we often have 6-8 instruments on-platform, and half a dozen wedges that just drown you in sound. For me, the MA400 is a life-saver helping me to hear my own guitar and give me a better sense of whether I'm in sync with everyone else.

Used this for the first time last night and all i can say is that it is a total game changer. I'm a guitarist and singer in a band. Wow, what you can get from this cheap in ear monitor system is great. Don't have to bother the sound tech and I can hear my vocals crystal clearly. Maybe was my best vocal performance yet. You can really hear yourself. You have to be a bit careful about feedback, but WOW did this do the trick. Would rec for any musician who is also singing and wants to hear themselves better. Really any musician who wants to hear better and still protect their hearing!

Volume range somewhat limited

The features of this little device are great. As a drummer who sings backing and lead vocals, this would have been fantastic to have twenty years ago during my steady gigging days, especially given the (typically) terrible PA systems we were "burdened" to use. If the sound system had wedge monitors, I was usually the last to get one and in that case we all had to share the same mix.

My only critique is that I had to set the volume almost at maximum in order to hear my vocal mic adequately. I have used this only once so far at a rehearsal. The only other musician who was playing with me was electric bass. His volume was reasonably low and I was not smashing my drums. I was wearing MEE Audio in-ear buds, which seal very well in my ears. I did contact Behringer, expressing concern that perhaps the device was not producing enough volume. I was told that the device is "probably" working normally(!?!). I will eventually try an alternate pair of ear buds, in case that makes a difference. I'm sure I could always add a small headphone amplifier in order to boost the volume to my earbuds, but that seems not an optimum use experience.

I ended up buying the behringer 4 headphone amp this only amplifies mic not aux input tried to use an adapter but did not work too loud and clipped but if your running a mic and need to hear yourself this is the one to get if you need to just hear the mix get the headphone amp
