I use Evans Synthetic Conga Drumheads exclusively when I'm not using various types of animal skin heads. I also use Evans heads on all my drum kits. I experimented with the Remo Fiberskyns, Nuskyns and Skyndeeps on my Congas and didn't like the sound of any of them. I'm not saying Evans synthetic heads are better than Remo synthetic heads, I'm just saying the Remo synthetic heads didn't sound good on MY Conga Drums. Choosing Conga heads are both matters of Objectivity and Subjectivity. It's simply a matter of personal preference.
The Conga size, 11.75 inches, Evans EC1175 fit very well with the Latin Percussion Comfort Curve II "X" rim and the Evans EC1175E (extended collar) fit very well with the Comfort Curve II "Z" rim. I find Evans Synthetic Heads to be very durable and consistent in every way, i.e., superior material quality, build quality, but most of all the sound quality on MY Congas. As long as your "BEARING EDGES" (the most important part of the drum) are uniform and consistent 360°, your Evans heads will tune up quickly. Evans Conga heads are especially useful if you're playing outdoors on a cold day. Ambient temperature does not affect their tuning, hot or cold!
