I’m a full time sailor and use binoculars ALOT. My trusty Nikon OceanPro binoculars broke and as repair will take awhile I bought the 7x50wPC-XL Fujinons. They are an excellent value so far.
As noted by other reviewers these are budget marine binoculars. They have a hard shell plastic casing, independent eye focus, and they don’t come with a case.
First off the optics quality is outstanding, equal to or better than the Nikons which cost twice as much. However, they are not ruggedized in any way. No rubber (except the eye ups), etc. the upside is that they are significantly lighter than virtually any other more expensive marine binoculars, which has its benefits.
FYI the general purpose of the compass is to take bearings. When you spot an 800’ cargo ship offshore, and periodic bearings don’t change, you know you’re on a collision course. So the compass is important. :)
I would give these five stars but as they are new to me the jury is out on durability. But I suspect of these are treated with respect and not dropped or bashed, and periodically washed with fresh water that they should last a long time. While light they do not feel cheap.
