End connectors are solid both at the solder joints as well as the connection points. Farrules are made of metal not plastic.
I tried to get away with a SPDIF cable for digital recording from a Kemper Profiler to a Presonus digital recording interface with an Amazon basics cable, and the quality was miserable. The cable ends were never snug... I experienced nothing but pops, clicks and intermediate disconnects. This cable cost maybe a dollar or two more, and is a hundred times better. I now experience NONE of the afore mentioned issues.
I knew this from the start but had a momentary lapse of reason in purchasing the basics cable.
With the new Hosa cable, connections on both sides are positive with no play. Data transmission is maxed and consistent. I can't say any of this about the Amazon basics SPDIF cable, which is currently in the garbage can.
You don't need to pay $100 for a cable, however, don't try to save a $1 buy buying a "basics" cable for critical applications. There certainly is a rule of diminishing returns with audio cabling and Hosa always fits the bill and the budget for me.
