Now, thats not to take away anything that Sangean has done. It has always done something positive on every "portable" radio I've owned on the SHORT WAVE BANDS. Get it? That includes a number of Grundigs and C Crane radios and a Tecsun PL310et. It works well for 23' of wire, and the spool allows you to gather that wire up in a convenient package for storage when not in use. How well it works will depend on your particular radio but it will improve reception on the SHORT WAVE BANDS if all you are using is the whip antenna. If you don't know what a Short Wave Band is, do some research.
This should answer those "does it work with" questions. Please don't ask me as I won't answer. You now know exactly what it is and how to test if this is a product for you.
First of all, I have a Grundig S450 DLX shortwave receiver. I found stations around the band and compared the signal strength with and without the Sangean Antenna.
I have the antenna spread inside the house and I am sure if it was outside it would be better. The signal strength inside on one station in particular went from a signal strength of 2 on the dial without the antenna to 4 with the antenna. I found this to be consistent throughout the bands. It made the receiver much more sensitive to weak signals.
The Sangean was easy to use. It comes with a clip to hook to the radio antenna if no jacks are provided on the radio for an antenna. In my case, the radio had an antenna input but it was a 75 ohm type instead of the 3.5mm jack that comes with the Sangean Antenna. The clip goes over the top section of the radio antenna and clips into place.
The Sangean Antenna comes rolled up on a spool. To extend the antenna, just pull it out, and the spool has a spring clip on it to attach the spool to a small tree branch or something solid. Once finished with the antenna the spool has a finger hole in order to roll the antenna back into the spool.
The quality of the Sangean ANT-60 is outstanding and built very solid. It is easy to extend and retract the antenna and if your radio has not 3.5mm antenna jack, just clip it to the radio antenna. The price was certainly great as well. I highly recommend it.
They work well and are nice to pack for travel/camping. Sure, you can just use a random length of wire, but these are much easier to deal with and the included adapter is nice (The Radio Shack version didn't have the plug, only the clip to snap over an antenna).
I can recommend this.
I bought this antenna, because I was upgrading my handheld shortwave radio. The antenna included with the set was enough to pick up some very powerful stations, but I was interested in being able to re-create my childhood experience of listening to stations in Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Certainly this antenna, the Sangean ANT-60 Short Wave Antenna, was able to deliver. Interestingly enough, shortwave radio extension is not my main use for it now though. The antenna comes with both a jack (1/8 inch) as well as a clip extension. My main computer is at the opposite end of the house from my Wi-Fi transmitter. One day I thought, “would the antenna extender increase the range of for the fidelity of my Wi-Fi reception on my main computer?”
Somewhat surprisingly, the answer was a resounding yes summation point, I was able to get a 13 dB increase in my receptivity on my computer. Antenna extension has not left my office since then. :-)
In addition to its usefulness, the antenna extender is very well designed. It comes with the carrying case that allows the cable to be rolled (and has a handy finger whole to allow you to quickly retract the cable). It also has the clip extender that allows it to be used even on equipment that doesn’t have Jack receptacle.
I am very impressed with this product.
One caveat, I do not recall seeing in the packaging material that this was an indoor item, but I highly recommend that it be used in an indoor environment. (You would probably want to have your plastic coating and a larger gauge wire for an outdoor application.)
