Good news parents, Vicki's got a new book! I have taken her class, twice (lucky me cause I can’t hear it enough!), I’ve read her Duct Tape Parenting book and have been practicing her guidance for almost a year now with my 2 pre-teen kids – 12 year old son and 10 year old daughter. I can see a shift in our relationship. My kids don’t view me as the maid anymore, because I’ve given up the job. My kids are making their own breakfast and lunch, doing their own laundry, and they have their own money to make decisions. They now have a voice in the family with our weekly family meetings. They feel a part of their daily life. And, I get to give up my job as maid to my kids and be their teacher instead. That is truly a gift for me.
At a recent introductory class, I loved Vicki's response to a parent’s question of what parents can do now, until class begins:
1. Shift from telling to asking "what happens next?'
2. Stop doing so much for your kids
3. Stop talking
Yeah, this is not easy stuff, but we (our sanity and our kids sanity) are worth the effort to consider a different way. It is real work changing the way we have always done our parenting but so worth it for anyone interacting with kids, and especially for parents.
Here’s another thing Vicki says that sticks with me: "A child's relationship with his or her family is the blueprint for all future relationships." Wow, that’s a kicker. This is an eye opening approach to our role as parents. I want to grow an independent adult, one who is responsible, respectful and resilient – Vicki gives us permission and shows us the way to do it! Thank you, Vicki! If you are reading this, you are draw to these ideas. You are so worth the time and effort to step into your role as teacher and focus on your relationship with your kids.
Good luck, and remember you are not alone in this journey!

Parents these days are under a great deal of pressure to be perfect.” From psychologists to social scientists, journalists to weekend bloggers, everyone has an opinion about the do’s and don’ts for raising healthy, well-adjustedand let’s not forget, politechildren in today’s fast-paced world. Where does this leave parents? Too often, lacking in confidence, ill equipped, and overwhelmed.
Parenting expert Vicki Hoefle makes the bold claim that it’s time for parents to get off the perfection path and get back to the real job of parenting: to grow a grown-up. In this no-nonsense parenting guide, Hoefle draws upon twenty-five years of experience with helping parents see the big picture and sidestep what she calls the detail drama” that too often trumps everyday life with our kids. Parents learn more than just strategies; they learn a methodology that allows them to help their toddlers build a strong foundation for success in adulthood.
In her trademark, tell-it-like-it-is style, Hoefle tells parents to trust their intuition and develop an intentional strategy for meeting each child’s unique needs. Above all, The Straight Talk on Parenting offers the confidence-boosting reminder that parenting is about practice (and a healthy dose of humor), not perfection.

If you want a band-aid solution to the myriad challenges of parenting then this book is NOT the solution. If you want to develop a long-term, healthy relationship with your children, however, and are willing to put in the necessary time and effort, then I highly recommend, “The Straight Talk on Parenting: A No-Nonsense approach on how to Grow a Grown-up.”
What I love about Vicki’s new book is that it provides a true framework and template that can be applied in a variety of situations. Furthermore, Vicki provides multiple real life stories and most importantly, of how to apply her template to these situations. As you continue to read through the stories, the impossible then becomes possible.
We have been following Vicki’s programs for over 6 years. Vicki and her processes have changed our lives in a very real and positive way.
What has been amazing to me over the last 6 years is that not only have I become a better parent, but I have also become a better person. I believe one of the true secret from Vicki is the concept of self-discovery. Vicki’s process forced me to look in the mirror, and be honest with myself. How could I possible expect my child to do anything that I was not modeling for them? It is one thing to say that we are a family that values kindness and self-respect; it is another thing to actually hold myself accountable for modeling these values.
Parenting is not a sprint; it is indeed, a marathon. I would highly recommend, “The Straight Talk on Parenting: A No-Nonsense approach on how to Grow a Grown-up” as an incredible resource for your parenting marathon.

Having read a gazillion parenting books we are so thankful that we finally found Vicki Hoefle. We have been using her approach for several years and, from our experience, thus far - IT WORKS! She gives us an 'intentional' framework to parent - helping us guide our kids through even the most frustrating situations/behaviors. Having kids contribute to the daily running of the household and their own lives not only benefits us, but helps them become increasingly self sufficient and responsible human beings as they move towards adulthood. It is a process but you'll see once everyone starts contributing you actually have more time to start connecting positively with your kids - it's FANTASTIC!

Vicki Hoefle is brilliant! Her common sense approach to raising little humans reminds us all that we don't need to interfere in order to grow with our kids. The timing of this release is perfect for our family as we grow through elementary school. One of the best things I love about what she has taught us is watching our kids cruise through the morning and get onto the bus confidently - without us nagging or chasing them to get out the door on time. Want a respectful relationship with your kids (and entire family?) Read this!

As a mother of three from Vermont, I've worked with Vicki for years. She's been instrumental to keeping our family on track, focused, and out of the parent trap of rewards, bribes, and other nonsensical tactics. For those who can't take a class with Vicki, Duct Tape Parenting, and the Straight Talk on Parenting are your connection to the best parenting coach out there! I can't recommend her books enough. As a tired, overworked and very average mom, I can attest to these books as lifesavers. You won't regret it.
