I was interested in reading this book after meeting Mr. Towe and reviewing his impressive list of influences (Tolkien being one of them).
Overall, this isn't a bad story. The characters are believable along with the environments described. My favorite character has to be Nigel with the roguish feeling like a blend of Aragorn and Gollum (although Gollum may be pushing that assessment too far).
When I read the first chapter, I knew this would be a good book as the opening hook was extremely compelling. After which the book moves along at a good pace allowing you to keep up with names and places.
My only complaint with this book is the grammatical errors that were missed before its release. In some places (Chapter Three), the spelling is so off that it distracts you from what is going on and leaves you wondering how such mistakes could have been missed. In some places, it appears there was an abuse of "Find and Replace" as the same mistake cropped up time and time again.
Things do improve as we go along but there are still mistakes there to make you shake your head.
I did enjoy this book and would most definitely read additional titles, but the final proofing needs to be a little tighter so that Mr. Towe's work will have the recognition it deserves.
