A truly groundbreaking and unforgettable read tailored to science fiction and music fans, and students of cultural studies.

Just finished this book and can't recommend it enough. I'm reeling from so many thoughts and insights on robotics, slavery, minstrelsy, capitalism, Afro-futurism, dub, cybernetics, creolization, and more. While mercilessly academic, it's an endlessly fascinating, crucial read for fans of science fiction, tech, history, music and cultural theory. Parts were impossible to put down, and many I keep returning to. Everyone from PT Barnum to Bert Williams to Samuel R. Delaney to Donna Haraway shows up. Basically, when you think "robot uprising" think "slave uprising" ...though that's just the tip of the archipelago. This has imparted a new level of depth to literally every SF book or film I've experienced, and promises to endure.
