Hank is great since it will introduce children to the world that characters in books can be made with their own voice instead of the reader having to equip one. His personality is strong and although he can be a goofy mess in a half, he has such a strong personality. All the other animals on the farm even as secondary characters follow the same make as well.
There are occasional pictures to break-up the monotony of reading for those who are struggling with chapter books or just need a break from all the words. They can be a bit cartoonish at times while at others they are just a bit more realistic.
Again a wonderful book for readers who are ready to move up in their reading preferences or those who need a more rugged read than the usual fantasy, modern age background or even just a school environed book.
As with all the Hank books, for me the highlight is the convoluted and confusing conversations between Hank and Drover. I also get a kick out of the fact that Hank has a human counterpart, Slim. It you read closely, the two personalities are much the same.
These are wonderful book for reluctant readers but they are also great books for the entire family, including ages four on up. Adults get as much reader pleasure form these books as do adults. I have yet to read one of these books, this one included, that I did not laugh my way though. If you read these books with care you will find that the sophistication of the writing is far, far higher than what the books appear to be. The author is a natural story teller and has the skills needed to bring his stories to light using the written word. The word play in these books is absolutely fascinating.
As with all the Hank books I highly recommend this one.
