Child of the Silent Night (英语) 精装 – 1963年9月9日
"Children who like Helen Keller biographies will want to read about similarly handicapped Laura Bridgman whose training, begun in the 1830s, paved the way for Helen Keller's education." -- Review
A native New Englander, Edith Fisher Hunter was born and grew up in Roxbury, Massachusetts. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1941, and in 1944 from the Union Theological Seminary, where she achieved her Bachelor of Divinity degree. Mrs. Hunter has contributed to religious-education and family magazines. Child of the Silent Night is her first book for young readers.

Personally I didn't like the hagiographic tone. There was nothing about Laura's conflicted relationship with Dr Howe and Miss Swift or her difficult personality among her peers. There was just a simplistic presentation of how her amazing acquisition of language gave her story a happy ending.
The target age-group (middle childhood) will not notice these flaws. They will enjoy the strong themes of keeping empathy for those with a disability, the need to persevere through challenges and the nature of education.
