A book for class I would have read for leisure2001年5月26日 - 已在美国亚马逊上发表
I was assigned this book in an English Renaissance literature class. This collection provides a fascinating insight into the English Renaissance. There are selections by the normal poets: Shakespeare, Spenser, etc. There are also selections by female poets, including Elizabeth I. I learned so much from this book in terms of literature, culture, and life. If you are interested in this time period, or in the British Isles, this book is essential!

Came in with pages falling out of the spine. The notes inside are appreciated but I feel like every day a page falls out. Be clear about what condition the book is in next time.

The book arrived in excellent shape and only gently used (I'll feel less inclined to feel bad if I leave it open). Thank you!
A very student-unfriendly edition2018年4月15日 - 已在美国亚马逊上发表
This is one of the worst editions I've ever made the mistake of assigning for a class. The edition supplies precious few glosses, and students will suffer from the lack of definitions for the Early Modern English vocabulary. Similarly there are absolutely no notes to supply even the barest of context. Finally the poems are organized in a confusing fashion, making it difficult to find selections by the same author. Relatedly, every poem in the anthology has been numbered, resulting in poems that are traditionally numbered (e.g. Sidney's sonnet sequence) having dual numbers. This badly needs re-editing. In the interim, if you have a choice and can purchase another edition, you'd be well advised to avoid the Penguin Book of Renaissance verse.
