I thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy and read through it all in several days. There were so many characters and I loved Elisa's band of friends.
I had a very hard time getting over Humbertos death even though I liked Hector and was rooting for them from the start.
Elisa was a complicated character and I'm unsure of how I feel about her. I think in a way her character developed too much. She started out a chubby pampered sixteen year old princess and evolved into a wizened fifty year old politician over the course of one year. I found it hard to believe that every decision she made was so political and the way she treated Hector until very late in the book was maddening. Add the trust issues after killing off both Humberto and Alejandro and I was truly scared that he wouldn't make it out alive.
The last part almost made me cry I was so happy for them.
A few nitpicky things. The author described things so often but neglected to tell us how old most of the characters were, which kind of drove me crazy. She mentioned dozens of times how young Hector looked but how old is he? Or Alejandro? Is he 25 \35? and Storm? When we first met him I pictured a man in his forties but later he sounds much younger. The omissions felt strange.
I'm not sure how I feel about Elisa's physical transformation. Losing weight can be empowering but you can also be empowered by accepting who you are and embracing it. I would have been happier with the latter as a message for teen readers.
I think the author did an astounding job pulling all of this together. Weaving together such a long complicated plot is a huge achievement and I think she deserves praise for how well it fit together
