"Enhanced with the inclusion of a CD featuring Enochian calls demonstrating the correct pronunciation to be used when practicing Enochian rituals, The Lost Art of Enochian Magic will prove to be an invaluable and greatly appreciated addition to personal and academic library Metaphysical Studies reference collections and supplemental reading lists." (James A. Cox, The Midwest Book Review, July10)

John DeSalvo holds a Ph.D. in biophysics and, for more than 20 years, scientifically studied the Shroud of Turin. The current director of the Great Pyramid of Giza Research Association, he is the author of five books, including The Seeress of Prevorst, Decoding the Pyramids, and Andrew Jackson Davis: The First American Prophet and Clairvoyant. He lives in Minnesota.

(This review refers to the Kindle edition of the book.)

I ordered this book primarily because of Lon Milo Duqette's forward so I was quite disappointed to find a book so decidedly un-meaty. Not only that, there were no "angel calls" as promised. If the hard copy's CD is missing some of the calls, the Kindle version has nothing, not even a link to a web site that provides the calls along with a pronunciation key. Another poster's referral to DeSalvo's web site, myangelmagic, is no help because the site is no longer extant and the web site with which DeSalvo's currently affiliated proves just as frustrating because the only way to get the angel calls is to buy the book (again!) so as to acquire the CD. I view this issue as something along the lines of false advertising. If you care about your audience at all and hope they'll continue to buy your books, remedy this problem.

I agree with the poster who complained about the lengthy history, which I had already read in Duquette's volume. There is very little new here, aside from the notion that one can talk to the angels without having all the very expensive bells and whistles (i.e., the gold ring). DeSalvo claims to have had success through meditation rather than scrying, although he considers himself rather proficient at meditation after having practiced for 30 years. The best part of the book for me was Chapter 8, the only part aside from Appendix B (which has the advantage of not being interrupted) that forms a practical guide to performing DeSalvo's meditation. Nonetheless, I was disturbed by the author's blatant prejudice against people with mental illness--he says they can't perform magick--since effective medications do exist. I have known people with mental illnesses who performed magick perfectly well, thanks. DeSalvo even goes to the trouble to cite Israel Regardie's recommendation that people go through lengthy counseling before attempting magick, which I find ironic because someone with a mental illness is more likely to have been in therapy than anyone else. DeSalvo also takes a good deal of time getting to the practical guide within Chapter 8, which I find annoying. He expounds quite a bit about his personal beliefs and insists you share his reasons for contacting angels before trying this at home. (The entire, uninterrupted ritual as per DeSalvo is in Appendix B.) That said, his LBRP is straightforward. He begins with the 19th Aethyr call, after which one can substitute the name of the appropriate governor[s] of the aethyrs that follow. (His personal fave, by the way, is Aethyr 22.) He also includes a list of governors, though I am not sure why they aren't in numerical order. Finding the governor of your choice may end up feeling like a search and rescue mission by the time you're done.

It is worth noting that DeSalvo has never found a magickal technique that's worked for him aside from the one described in Lon Milo Duquette's Enochian Vision Magick. Readers: take heed!

I have read this book twice now and when I originally read it, I was receptive to the message but it wasn't the right time to put it to practice. Now having read it again I got so much more out of it than originally. Now I am ready and able to put it to practice and will update later. I just ordered the follow up book by Dr. DeSalvo will get it the first week of 2014! Also ordered the book by Jon Milo Duquette and the Enochian Dictionary and will review them in the future. This book leaves you wanting more! And I'm getting them soon!

This book's best part is its chapter on the "Enochian Meditation" which is somewhat innovative and very interesting. To get to this chapter, though, people familiar with Dee and Enochian have to suffer through several chapters of introductory material that is pretty redundant unless you are a complete beginner on the subject. For this reason the book, while a good one, was a disappointment to me because there was very little presented that was new. Even the meditation followed theories similar to those I had developed in the course of study for this magic -- though the book presented a more coherent and organized meditation than any I had come up with.

Regardless of my own disappointments, I believe that this book is worth getting. The author does have some interesting insights into the magic which are worth examining, and the meditation presented is definitely worth studying and adding to anyone's magical practices. Just don't let your expectations get too high.

The cd that comes with it is really nice. Anyone interested in actually performing enochian magic this is the book and cd to get. It goes through the pronunciation of how to do the call on the cd and it has step by step instructions on how to go to the aethers. So anyone wanting to go to the thirty aethers you can get there using this book..

As a a newbie to Enockian magick, I could not ask for a better introduction to this fascinating subject! Highly recommended!
