平均5.0 星 What a great reference book for anybody who sews 2012年4月18日

I am thrilled with this book. I sat down and read through the entire thing as soon as I got it. It gives detailed explanations on what qualities different fabrics have and what kind of projects they are good for. As an avid quilter I am very knowledgable about quilting fabric. But, as a novice clothing and bag sewist I need some help when it comes to what kinds of fabric are good for diffrent projects.

Not only does she give info on fabric, but she also includes descriptions about notions and pattern symbols. I think this is a great reference book for anybody who sews.

平均5.0 星 Excellent Reference, Packed with Info. 2017年1月8日

This book is small, but packed with important information. Most fabrics have one page dedicated to it, with a photo or two of the fabric. There is a short synopsis, but again full of information. No wasted words. Then she goes on to give you what I consider the most important. Properties, including drape, weight and special considerations. Then there is working with, including what type of needle to use, cutting out, thread, stitch length. Lastly there is care, including pressing and shrinkage. Each fabric has designated icons that show what the fabric can be used for. The sections are broken up in wovens, knits, blended, etc.. Lastly there is a section on notions and tools.
I have read through this book twice, and have learned a lot about fabrics, even seeing where I went wrong with past sewing disasters. It has made an excellent quick reference. It is small enough to keep by my machines. It has saved me time setting up my machines and testing on scraps, knowing what thread to use, needle, stitch, or special considerations with the fabric I am sewing. I highly recommend this book.

This book is a really great reference! Each fabric page has a good summary of the important things to know about the fabric in question, which is a lifesaver when I forget to write the care instructions down, or am not sure about which needle to use, etc. There's also some description of notions as well, really handy. I would definitely recommend having this on hand!

This guide covers the properties of the fabrics included in the book. Under each fabric section a picture of the fabric described is included. The author includes on the same page info regarding the handling of the fabric and care. Under these headings are tips on sewing the fabric and goes so far as to suggest the best needle, thread, interfacing/lining to use as well as proper stitch length and machine presser foot. A section on sustainable fabrics such as bamboo is also an added plus. After the listing of fabrics is a section on notions. Yes, there is info for all. Whether novice or seasoned sewer this book is an excellent reference and should be included on the shelf of every sewer.
