This was a well written and exciting story that kept me on edge to the end. Ms Lynn is a great author and plann to read more of her work.

The second book in the dragon series was just as good as the first. It didn't take me long to be absorbed into the story. I can't wait to read the next one.

平均2.0 星 2.5 stars, due to introspection, sarcasm, and inconsistency 2012年8月2日

Unfortunately, despite the potentially intriguing plot and the author's ability to write well, this one fell flat.

I grew tired of reading what the lead characters were thinking. VERY tired of that. It's a pet peeve. A little introspection goes a long way--and I do like a little of it.

I became frustrated with the sarcasm and coldness Cam showed to Ariel. It made him unattractive, in my view. I got tired of Cam's refusal to accept what was obvious, both in terms of Ariel's dilemma and her potential as a mate. His constant internal battles about Ariel got old.

The relationship between Sean and Cam was strongly marked by sarcasm, too. Brothers?

Likewise, the fraught relationship with his aunt. Danielle seemed immature. Not believable given her family history, her gifts, and her age.

As for plot, it was spaced too far apart. Too many pages were dedicated to internalizing, allowing for insufficient action.

Finally, the story lacked internal logic. Cam's actions, abilities, and thoughts did not add up. If he could have safely read Ariel's mind without detection, he would have done so, given his constant argument that his first priority was to protect his family. Furthermore, since Cam knew what it was to lose family members to the dreaded Nathan R., he would have-- should have-- been expected to show FAR MORE SYMPATHY to Ariel, given that her brother's life was in peril, and Cam had reason to suspect something like this. He should have understood the horrible position Ariel was in, and when he did not, it seemed out of character, given his own experiences with the evil Nathan. I viewed this as inconsistency between what Cam experienced in his past and how he behaved in the present.

I stuck it out to the boring end, but there was no golden HEA sigh-worthy finale. It was wrapped up quickly. I felt nothing.

Sorry, the plot caught my eye and should have worked. But I did not get attached to any of the characters, except maybe the dragon half of Cam and the wizard inside the box. I thought Ariel was slow to catch on....a bit stupid.
