We did a test of these when we first got them, and man are they loud! Which is great when you're looking at items like this. My husband went downstairs and tested them out, and even sitting in the living room watching TV with all doors to downstairs shut, I could easily hear them go off as he tested each one.
These seem like high quality little protection devices. They come with super strong tape to stick to whatever surface you want them to go on. They stay secure and don't move. However, when you take them apart (such as open a window or door) be sure to plug your ears because there is no way somebody is sneaking in.
Pros: Good loud sound, very high quality 3M type tape to secure, easy to install and set up
Cons: None. We may end up buying another pack of these.
The chime chimes once but the alarm siren stays on and really alerts you to a window or door opening. I have gotten these for all my windows. Button batteries are included and can be replaced as needed. Instructions say they work up to a year. There is a battery test button also. The decibel on these are way louder that most other company's. I can hear these all over my 2200 square foot house.
The volume is adequate and the alarm can be heard from one end of our rather large house to the other and continues sounding until turned off at the switch or the window is closed. The chime is almost as loud and, of course, not as obnoxious and only sound for a few seconds.
The reason for only 3 stars is that two of them do not function properly. They've been installed for about a week. Disappointingly, one of the four units' alarm mode failed "out-of-the-box" and another unit's alarm mode will only chirp and not continue sounding if the window is raised quickly. This creates uncertainty and a lack of confidence in the product having a long service life. We'll see and I'll try to remember to update my review after they've been in service for a while. I plan to order another package for I'm interested in whether the percentage of non-functioning units will be the same.
Also, these will not readily work on most residential doors due to the offset from the frame molding to the surface of the door. A supporting block could be affixed to the door which would place the alarm unit in juxtaposition with the magnet. Some modification to decorative molding would have to also be made in order to affix the magnet securely.
Having done several tests, I'm reasonably confident the ones that actually work will provide adequate warning in case of unauthorized intrusion and will adequately support our home defense strategy.
Each unit comes with double-sided adhesive to attach the pieces adjacent to one another. They don't have to be exactly parallel but the arrows on each piece must line up within 1/2 inch to each other for proper operation.
Overall, these are a good choice for simple notification of a window or door being opened and are easily portable for traveling.
