This is Jessica Nye's son, 9 years old. I think the book does not deserve a four-star rating, and if I could give it more than 5 I would. Yu-ning's parents are missing and she was sent to Rainbow Island at a very young age. She enjoys the beautiful days there, enlightened by the Seven Sacred Crystals, which project a beautiful rainbow for miles around. Meanwhile, Hobaling, an evil warlock, has hunted down the last Obsidigon (Darq dragon) skull in existence, left over from the Great Obsidigon Wars long ago, when the Darq Renders destroyed the Obsidigons. Hobaling used Darq magic to conjure an Obsidigon from the skull. The Obsidigon attacks Rainbow Island and burns much of the villages. Yu-ning discovers that she is a Darq Render when she gets a burn on her arm from the Obsidigon, yet there is a small crescent mark where her skin is untouched. Romeo is abducted by the Darq dragon, which steals the Seven Sacred Crystals and flies off to spread darkness everywhere. It would take forever to summarize all her adventures around the ocean and the islands, helping to free many slave children and retrieving the last Darq Render bow and arrows to kill the Obsidigon. It is unlike any other fantasy book I have read, where the character isn't introduced to magic, but rather has grown up with magic when a dilemma occurs. I can't wait for any upcoming sequels!

This ranks up at the top of the worst books I've read. The basic story line could have been good. But it was so sticky sweet it was upsetting my stomach! Love everyone and every thing, do whatever you want as long as it's done with love. Get real. Ms. Hsiao needs to decide who her target readers will be and stick to the program. Half (or more) seemed to be for ages 4-8. The rest could have made a good YA. As it turned out, it wasn't good for anyone. Yuck.
