作者简介

Julia Elman has been working her brand of web skills for nearly a decade. She started out as a designer for an internal marketing group at a travel agency in Los Angeles, and quickly honed her skills as a web designer using HTML/CSS. Julia joined the Caktus Consulting Group in 2011 and is thrilled to work with some of the most talented developers this side of the Mississippi. She is actively involved with Girl Develop It RDU as an instructor to help contribute in educating women pursuing a career in technology. Mark is a lead Python/Django developer at Caktus Consulting Group in Carrboro, NC. He also runs a small homebrewing website written in Django called brewedbyus.com. He came to Python web development after a few years pricing derivatives on Wall Street. Mark maintains a number of open source projects primarily related to Django development and frequently contributes back to projects used by Caktus. When he isn't programming, Mark enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, brewing beer, and running.

平均3.0 星 Starts great but then becomes unclear and annoying 2016年3月11日

This book starts out amazing, but once you get to the rest framework, it suddenly starts to becomes unclear. "Where do these variables come from?" you ask yourself, "how would I know to include them and change them?" The books answer "note how this variable changed" that's not very clear to me. I found much of the rest of the book like this. Its kind of annoying if you're on the noob side of django and especially the rest framework. The online tutorials (from the project sites) helped explain things a bit better, but after doing them, I still feel like there's something more I'm supposed to know for this book and am not being told. It's annoying. There's some good bits in here, but they could still be more clearly explained. You basically might as well just look at the github and figure it out yourself.

平均4.0 星 Good content, duplicate examples, no copy/paste in Kindle version. 2015年4月22日

I bought the kindle version of this book...and it's pretty good, though the examples repeat themselves a lot so there isn't as much content as you'd expect. The writing is clear however, and the examples it does have are pretty good; presents a few ways to approach similar problems.

I was disappointed I couldn't copy/paste the code samples from the ebook version....it's kinda why I like programming ebooks these days.
平均5.0 星 It describes useful approached to development of web-applications by using Django 2016年1月30日

The most effective method to teach someone how to correctly use a programming language is to give an example of a complex application and disassemble it to atomic components. The authors used that method. Page after page, they build a multiuser SCRUM-board. They give an answer for every line of code. The main advantage of the book is those answers: detailed, reasonable and helpful. It needs to be notices, that the book in not a reference. It describes useful approached to development of web-applications by using Django. The knowledge of jQuery, Underscore and Backbone frameworks is strongly recommended, because all of these are used through the code. It was really interesting to read the chapter dedicated to integration issues between Django and the Tornado server + the Redis message broker.
平均3.0 星 Django Deconstructed 2017年2月9日

My favorite aspect of this book is that it stepwise walks you through a minimal Django setup that allow you to see what a barebones project looks like. The primer on Django REST Framework is decent but light. The rest of the book is about Backbone and using Tornado for websockets, which is a little dated because of Django channels. Backbone seems like a pragmatic choice for a JS library but I am not a JS developer and won't be building a JS app in Backbone anytime soon, so it wasn't applicable to me. Well written and if you want to not use channels, then this book might be better for you.
平均3.0 星 Carefully review what this book does for you, and where you are in your learning process. 2016年2月29日

Not bad as a way to learn things from the ground up, but not as useful for just getting answers quickly. However, it's tough picking out a book that will cover the latest releases like 1.9 and then gives a timeline history of all that has changed or improved since the introduction of Django. I.e. Just look at how database migration support has evolved over time as one example. Users must choose their documentation wisely because of the rapid improvements made between minor revision releases.
