From AudioFile In this 1915 saga of several generations of a Midlands family, Lawrence expresses an almost mystical tie between sex and the "rhythm of eternity." Peter Jeffrey communicates this and the superb, complex characterizations with resonance, clarity, maturity and finesse. He's a superb narrator. He misses the author's sinewy virility but otherwise delivers a more interesting story than Lawrence wrote. Y.R. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. Review Lawrence is the most Dostoevskian of English novelists, in whose best work conflicting ideological positions are brought into play and set up against each other in dialogue that is never simply or finally resolved.

Review ?[Lawrence] had that quality of genius which sucks out of ordinary experience essences strange or unknown to men.? ?
