Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine, in 1947. He won a scholarship award to the University of Maine and later taught English, while his wife, Tabitha, got her degree.
It was the publication of his first novel Carrie and its subsequent adaptation to film that set him on his way to his present position as perhaps the bestselling author in the world.
Carrie was followed by over forty worldwide bestsellers including It, The Stand, Misery, Dolores Claiborne, Duma Key and Just After Sunset. Some of his stories have also been adapted into first-rate film including those in this collection.
Stephen King is the 2003 recipient of the National Book Foundation Medal for 'Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. In 2007 he was inducted as a Grand Master of the Mystery Writers of America.
He lives with his wife, novelist Tabitha King, in Bangor, Maine.
