露易莎·梅·奥尔科特（一八三二——一八八八），美国十九世纪著名女作家。自幼开朗乐观，酷爱阅读与写作。其父曾开办学校，后因接纳黑人儿童而被强行关闭。此后家境日渐贫寒，为生计所迫，爱尔科特从事过各种工作，其中包括陪护一位贵妇人游历了欧洲，这些都极大地丰富了她的阅历。《小妇人》一书的创作仅仅占据了她两个月的时间，却给她带来了一生的荣誉。该书于一八六八年出版，立即以其独特魅力吸引了广大读者，反响极为强烈，于是，爱尔科特在次年（即一八六九年）完成了它的续集《好妻子》，后与《小妇人》合成一册出版，总名为《小妇人》。
